Jungheinrich launches sales of the new EFG 2/2i and EFG 3/3i electric counterbalanced forklifts. Customers are able to order the completely redesigned successor models since 15 July 2026. The new series combine maximum compactness with carefully graded performance and a high level of operator comfort – for efficient and high-performance material handling in the 48-volt segment up to a load capacity of 2.0 tonnes.
With the EFG 2/2i and 3/3i series, Jungheinrich is launching a new generation of electric counterbalanced forklift trucks in the highly sought-after load capacity class of up to 2 tonnes. The market launch took place on 15 July 2026. Developed on the basis of customer feedback from over 170,000 vehicles sold, the models are aimed at users who wish to see high productivity, safety and future-proofing combined in a compact vehicle design.
The EFG 2/2i series offers particularly manoeuvrable three-wheel forklifts with load capacities ranging from 1.4 to 2.0 tonnes, whilst the EFG 3/3i series, comprising four-wheel forklifts, covers the 1.6 to 2.0-tonne range. “With these new series, we have developed trucks that are consistently tailored to the real-world requirements of the warehouse – from compactness and ergonomics right through to performance,” says Marek Scheithauer, Global Portfolio Lead for Counterbalance Light Trucks at Jungheinrich.
Best-in-class compactness for cost-effective warehouse processes
A key development objective was to enable customers to utilise their existing warehouse space even more efficiently. Thanks to the integrated lithium-ion battery, optimised steering axle geometry and consistently compact design, the new EFG 2/3i achieves up to 15 per cent better space efficiency.
Compared with the previous series, the turning circle has been reduced by up to 300 millimetres, depending on the model. This enables safe and efficient operation in narrow aisles, on lorry loading areas or in confined production areas, and reduces space costs.
Three performance variants and a modular energy concept
With efficiencyPLUS, drive&liftPLUS and performancePLUS, Jungheinrich offers three clearly differentiated performance levels – ranging from the entry-level variant for moderate handling capacities, through a balanced all-round variant, to the most powerful configuration for maximum productivity.
In the performancePLUS variant, designed for demanding applications and rapid goods handling, permanent-magnet synchronous motors and optimised hydraulics – combined with improved energy efficiency – ensure significantly higher handling performance.
The EFG 2/2i & 3/3i series are based on a modular energy concept. Integrated lithium-ion batteries, precisely tailored to the respective customer requirements and available in various capacities (346, 460 and 690 Ah), are an option, as is the use of lead-acid batteries or preparation for operation with a fuel cell.
Ergonomics and acoustics for fatigue-free working
The new series has been developed with the driver’s perspective firmly in mind. An enlarged footwell with around 100 millimetres of additional legroom, a lower entry height and an ergonomically optimised steering column reduce physical strain.
A comprehensively revised acoustic and vibration concept, featuring a vibration-decoupled cab, ensures noise levels of just 63 dB(A). The new HMI, with a 4.3-inch touchscreen and redesigned controls, supports intuitive, logical operation and contributes to precise, fatigue-free working.
Greater safety through improved visibility
A key safety feature is the newly designed, angled B-pillar. It reduces the blind spot when reversing by up to 65 per cent, a significant safety improvement: statistics show that the majority of all accidents involving industrial trucks occur whilst reversing.
A low dashboard area and the optional panoramic roof further improve visibility of the forks, load and rack levels, particularly when working at greater lift heights. In addition, a wide range of configurable assistance systems is available, including camera-based solutions such as the AI-supported addedVIEW person detection system or the zone-based collision protection system zoneCONTROL.
The optionally available SmartStripe LED light strip increases the truck’s visibility through clear braking, direction-of-travel and warning signals; it also displays the current battery charge status, even from a distance. To detect problems early and avoid unplanned downtime, the electric forklift trucks are networked as standard and provide valuable operational data in real time. Thanks to digital service, predictive maintenance and remote diagnostics, fleets remain in operation for longer – with shorter repair times and lower costs.
“The new EFG 2/2i and 3/3i series combine measurable productivity benefits with high investment security and future-proofing. In this way, we help our customers to organise their internal processes efficiently today whilst ensuring they are equipped to meet tomorrow’s requirements,” says Marek Scheithauer.
At launch, the drive&liftPLUS variant will initially be available to order; efficiencyPLUS and performancePLUS will expand the range in 2027.
