The U.S. Department of the Treasury’s Community Development Financial Institutions Fund (CDFI Fund) would like to make the public aware of fraudulent social media profiles, email accounts, text messages, and phone numbers that attempt to impersonate the CDFI Fund or otherwise associate themselves with it.
Although the specific platforms and messages vary, these imposters provide false CDFI Fund employee and contact information, false links to a website allegedly the CDFI Fund website, and a false telephone number. Scammers have also been known to use the CDFI Fund’s official logo and Certified CDFI seal to make their communications appear legitimate. In some instances, scammers have contacted an individual, asserting that the individual has been awarded a grant or a similar sum of money, and requesting personal information or a sum of money as a condition to “release” the funds. The U.S. Department of the Treasury and the CDFI Fund do not administer their programs in this manner. The CDFI Fund urges recipients of such calls, text messages, and emails to be extremely wary of schemes that require advance payment for a later promise of funds. Also, please be cautious when clicking on links falsely attributed to the CDFI Fund.
The official CDFI Fund website is www.cdfifund.gov. The CDFI Fund has four official social media profiles: on the X platform (formerly Twitter) is @CDFIFund, Instagram, LinkedIn, and YouTube. The main number for the CDFI Fund is (202) 653-0300. Other official phone numbers for the CDFI Fund, such as the Helpdesk, can be found on the website.
