New building under construction at Aurich campus to increase NORD’s electronic controls manufacturing capacity.

To meet the increasing demand for electronic control products, drive technology specialist, NORD DRIVESYSTEMS, is expanding production capacities at their Aurich facility in Germany. This location has been manufacturing the company’s electronic drive components since the 1980’s and every NORD electronic drive, whether a control cabinet or decentralized solution, has been produced at the plant regardless of whether it is used in Europe, China, North America, or anywhere else in the world. On August 22 of this year, NORD held a topping-out ceremony for the new building, celebrating the placement of the final, highest beam on the building’s structure.

The new, modern two-story building is being built on a 193,750 sq. ft. site adjacent to the existing production plant and will feature direct connection to the current buildings. Upon completion, the project will create an additional base area of 53,820 sq. ft., with 92,570 sq. ft. for production and logistics areas and 15,070 sq. ft. for communal and training spaces.

Following the building permit submission in March 2024, site work quickly began. Approximately 459,090 cu. ft. of topsoil was removed, fill sand was brought in, and the existing paving was crushed and reused on site. Foundation work began in September and within twelve weeks, 101 sleeve foundations and a 328-foot-long strip foundation were created. A new nitrogen tank was also installed in October, its volume exceeding that of the existing tank by more than 60% and ensuring an oxygen-free protective atmosphere during automatic soldering of the modules. In December, just in time for the holidays, the foundation was complete.

Since May 2025, there has been significant progress on the building’s infrastructure. A large mobile crane and several lorries delivered prefabricated concrete parts in cycles, with all posts and external walls installed in three construction phases. The topping-out ceremony in August marks a major milestone on the road to completion of the project. With this expansion, NORD continues to show their commitment to meeting customer needs and providing the short delivery times they deserve.
