GS1 US selects executive change agents to keynote GS1 Connect 2014

Three keynote speakers will headline the GS1 Connect 2014 conference program, themed “Reinventing Business.” Terry Jones, founder of Travelocity.com and chairman of Kayak.com; Alexis Maybank, founder of Gilt Groupe; and Hilary Mason, data scientist in residence at Accel, former scientist emeritus at bitly, and co-founder of HackNY will each share how their approach to innovation has driven positive change for many businesses and industries. The conference will be hosted by GS1 US at the San Diego Marriott Marquis & Marina and the San Diego Convention Center from June 8-12, 2014

In the “The Business of Innovation” session, Mr. Jones will discuss the fundamentals of innovation, including how to generate great ideas that reinvent business. At Travelocity.com and Kayak.com, Jones pioneered innovations that led to major industry transformations. He will share how he led those changes, discuss the many benefits of thinking in a digital mindset, and provide actionable tools to help attendees keep up with a rapidly changing business world.

During her session, titled “The Seamless Consumer Experience,” Ms. Maybank will share how she redefined the way millions of people shop by reinventing the “sample sale” online. Dedicating her career to building and launching innovative and compelling e-commerce experiences for consumers, Maybank will share her unique perspective on the retail industry’s evolution, and describe how her innovative approach to delivering a new retail experience changed the rules of retail for both shoppers and brands. She will also discuss how listening and responding to the needs of consumers can inspire innovation and propel a business forward.

Ms. Mason will discuss “Finding Understanding in Data.” Drawing on her passion for data, Mason will discuss how the data generated online interacts with the world spatially and through time, and how users can find knowledge from unconnected data points. Mason will share best practices for developing and implementing data strategies within an organization, and will empower attendees to leverage big data that uncovers intelligence and can drive action for businesses globally.

“Our keynote speakers have been visionaries in their industries, and exemplify the GS1 Connect theme of reinventing business,” said Bob Carpenter, president and CEO of GS1 US. “The conference aims to not only help attendees learn how to leverage standards to improve their business processes, but also help them to drive positive change by providing insights from some of the most respected experts in business. We hope that attendees can learn from their experiences, and put them into practice to drive their own businesses forward.”

In addition to the keynote speakers, experts from the retail, healthcare, foodservice and grocery industries will examine drivers for change at GS1 Connect 2014, with the goal of improving supply chain visibility and enhancing industry’s ability to innovate. More than 1,200 industry professionals attend the conference each year to learn how GS1 Standards can improve product traceability, operational efficiency, data quality, growth and collaboration.
