Through an affiliation with East Carolina University (ECU) athletics, NACCO Materials Handling Group, Inc. (NMHG) has donated $63,000 to the United Way of Pitt County based on the number of ECU touchdowns completed throughout the 2013 football season.

“The Pirates had a strong season offensively, and NMHG is proud to collaborate with them to make this donation to the United Way of Pitt County,” said Brett Schemerhorn, vice president of marketing for NMHG. “With basketball and baseball still to come this academic year, we have even more opportunity with ECU Athletics to support and strengthen our community through the United Way.”

At the final regular season ECU home football game against the University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB) on Nov. 16, NMHG presented the United Way of Pitt County with a check for $54,000 based on the number of touchdowns achieved to that point. NMHG representatives Brett Schemerhorn and Pat DeSutter presented the check to Jim Cieslar and John Bacon from the United Way of Pitt County.

ECU scored nine additional touchdowns since Nov. 16, bringing the total NMHG contribution to $63,000. Winning 9 out of 12 games this season, ECU is slated to play in the 2013 Beef ‘O’ Brady’s Bowl on Dec. 23 in St. Petersburg, Fla., against Ohio University. NMHG will also donate based on the number of ECU touchdowns completed during the bowl game. NMHG is beginning its fourth year in collaboration with ECU athletics to benefit the United Way and has donated more than $295,000 through the program to date.
