TÜV Rheinland Industrial Solutions (TRIS) has appointed Larry Volkmann as senior sales and business development manager for advanced non-destructive testing (NDT) and energy services. Volkmann will report directly to TRIS Chief Operating Officer.

Volkmann comes to TÜV Rheinland with more than 25 years of experience in consulting-based business development, sales, marketing and management of NDT laboratory and field services, along with asset integrity management and product testing services. He is well-versed in all aspects of advanced NDT technologies and developments, having begun his career as an NDT technician and earned Level II certifications in a multitude of NDT and mechanical inspection techniques.

Prior to joining TÜV Rheinland, Volkmann served as Senior Business Line Manager at Applus RTD USA in Houston, Texas, where he was responsible for strategic business development for all North American business lines and the power generation market. Before that, he held various NDT-related sales and management positions with Bodycote Thermal Processing Corporation in Melrose Park, Ill., with Stork Twin City Testing Corporation in St. Paul, Minn., and QC Inspection Services Inc. in Burnsville, Minn. Moreover, Volkmann assisted multiple organizations, including GE Energy and Southern Company, with in-service NDT inspections as an independent contractor.

“Larry’s extensive experience in sales and business development and solid technical background, particularly in advanced NDT applications and power plants, will give further competitive advantage to our already highly-skilled team,” said Robert Burns, TRIS Chief Operating Officer. “TRIS strives to become the leading and most comprehensive provider of advanced NDT services to the North American market.”

Volkmann speaks frequently to various NDT professional groups and clients regarding advanced NDT services and inspection research and development innovations. The venues include the Electric Power Research Institute, Nuclear Regulatory Commission, American Petroleum Institute and American Society of Mechanical Engineers, among many.

Volkmann received his training in Non-Destructive Testing, Metallurgy and Welding from Hutchinson Technical College in Hutchinson, Minn. For 10 years, he served as Military Intel Analyst and Instructor in the United States Army National Guard and Reserve.
