Material Handling Supply donates $17,000 to pediatric facility

On December 21, 2015 the staff from Material Handling Supply (MHS) located at 6965 Airport Highway, Pennsauken, NJ, made the holidays brighter at the Voorhees Pediatric Facility (VPF). The MHS Lift team visited with the VPF staff and the medically fragile children, who receive 24/7 care at the facility located at 1304 Laurel Oak Road, Voorhees, NJ, to present them with gifts and a check for $17,000.00.

Brett Levin, Material Handling Supply’s Vice President states, “At MHS we are always looking to give back to the community. So, when we were asked to tour the Voorhees Pediatric Facility and saw all the love and care that these medically fragile children receive daily and the significant need for funds to update their learning classrooms and their play areas and courtyards, we were in.”

MHS donated $100 for every forklift they sold between November 16 and December 18 and presented a check for $17,000.00 to the staff at VPF on December 21. MHS also donated everyday hygienic supplies such as toothbrushes, dish soaps, hand soaps, shampoo, and body wash along with arts and crafts, DVD’s, batteries, cooking supplies and gift cards to toy stores that they were able to collect through local donations including co-workers, family, friends and local businesses.

In addition, MHS is joining the staff at VPF, who has been matched to twenty specific patient’s wish lists, and will help to purchase three desired educational/fun toys and clothes for those children.

This is the second major charity event MHS has held since moving to Pennsauken. Originally located in Brooklawn, the company moved into a larger facility on Airport Highway in October of this year. MHS raised $11,425 with over 100 walkers for the fight against Alzheimer’s in November 8, 2015 and participated in a smaller event on December 3, 2015 that brought over $600 of much needed supplies to Joseph’s House of Camden.

Levin explains, “There are people in need and we are in a position to help. We are building a strong culture in the company of reaching out to the community to lend a hand. We are fostering that culture and I see it resonating throughout the company. The response to the Alzheimer’s Walk and bringing a happy holiday to the patients of VPF has been overwhelmingly positive.”

In 1982, the Voorhees Pediatric Facility opened its doors and has grown into a nationally recognized pediatric specialty care center that offers 119 in-patient beds and the largest freestanding pediatric ventilator program in the country. In 2013, VPF received the highest accreditation awarded by The Joint Commission.

VPF is a long term, 24/7, specialized care facility for children who are challenged with degenerative diseases, critical airway (tracheotomy), mechanical ventilator dependency, traumatic brain injury, complex seizure disorders, neuromuscular disease, chromosomal disorders, near drowning, BPD (Bronchopulmonary Dysplasia), Orthopedic anomalies and conditions, neurological impairments, craniofacial anomalies, wound care needs, IV therapy including Total Parenteral Nutrition (TPN) and terminal illnesses.
