Crown Lift Trucks in Lexington achieves Zero Landfill Status

Crown Equipment Corporation is adding another location to its expanding roster of zero landfill status facilities. In this instance, it’s the Crown Lift Truck sales and service location in Lexington, Ky. The team’s efforts are part of Crown Equipment’s global ecologic™ program that is based on the principles of minimizing waste, managing energy, maximizing lifespan. According to Steve Lyons, service and parts manager, Crown Lift Trucks in Lexington, opportunity knocked when the company announced plans earlier this year to move into a new 24,000-square-foot location.

“Sustainability is important to Crown, and we knew we had a chance to make it meaningful to us as we moved into our new facility,” said Lyons. “We needed to get all of our team on board as well as collaborate with several partners to recycle and repurpose our materials. Today, we are sorting aluminum, batteries, non-recyclable waste, paper, cardboard, plastics and wood to ensure that everything is diverted from landfills. It is a lot work, but we know we’re making a positive impact on our company, our community and our planet.”

Customers have taken notice as well. A local operations manager said, “When choosing a vendor to partner with our company not only looks at performance but also environmentally friendly companies. We congratulate Crown Lexington on being landfill free.”

Crown’s ongoing commitment to environmental sustainability is evident throughout many aspects of its operations and has been recognized with numerous sustainability awards from organizations such as the National Pollution Prevention Roundtable, Ohio EPA, Inbound Logistics, Food Logistics and more. Earlier this year, the Ohio EPA honored Crown with its first-ever, gold-level award in its Encouraging Environmental Excellence (?3) program.

The company recently hosted the Sustainable Manufacturer Network’s Zero-Waste-to-Landfill Workshop at its New Knoxville, Ohio, facility, which is a zero-waste-to-landfill operation. Crown’s electronics manufacturing plant in New Bremen, Ohio, and its Crown Lift Trucks sales and service location in Dayton, Ohio, also are zero landfill facilities.
