Toyota launches forklift electronic diagnostic system

Toyota Industrial Equipment recently launched the Toyota Electronic Diagnostic (T.E.D.) expert system for dealer technicians. T.E.D. was designed to help Toyota’s nearly 3,000 dealer technicians save time by accessing information online to diagnose complex problems.

Last year, TIE partnered with Exsys Inc. to capture the problem-solving knowledge of top experts to create an online diagnostic system to help simplify and speed up the diagnosis and repair of Toyota forklifts. A customized online user interface allows technicians to input a forklift model and associated error code. Based on the input, T.E.D. provides a probable cause and detailed information to repair the problem including photos, wiring diagrams and schematics. The web-based system is available on tablets or smart phones with a web browser to provide dealer technicians with mobile access to T.E.D. anywhere in the U.S. and Canada.

“Toyota dealers and technicians now have a one-stop source for expert technical advice, available day or night, to assist their customers,” said Cary Howie, technical services manager at Toyota Material Handling, U.S.A.

T.E.D. is also used to train new TIE technicians, allowing students to view results from various scenarios for a unique and comprehensive learning experience. Future updates to T.E.D. will include a broader range of products and system complexities, and diagnostic assistance for transmissions and hydraulic systems.
