The Kardex Remstar Shuttle XP Vertical Lift Module (VLM) can now be equipped with Access Ready Light technology to improve picking productivity and accuracy. This new light tool now available helps operators visualize when the tray is in the access opening and ready for picking or putting. This upgrade, “Access Ready” lights, improves storage and retrieval of goods and order picking performance.
The Shuttle XP VLM is a flexible, modular system with an elevator running up the middle of the unit storing and retrieval shelves on both the front and back of the machine. Operating on the goods-to-person principle, with the touch of a button, a specific tray is brought to the operator at an ergonomic access opening for easy picking. Designed to reduce storage space and maximize cube density, the Shuttle XP can recover up to 85% of previously wasted floor space.
When equipped with Access Ready lights, it is easy for operators to visualize when the Shuttle XP tray is in position and ready for picking. As a tray is being retrieved, the Access Ready lights are red, indicating to the operator to wait for the tray to be delivered to the access opening. Once the lights turn green, the operator knows it is ok to access items on the available tray. As soon as the operators tasks are complete, the tray can be returned to its storage location within the unit. The lights will turn red again as soon as the tray begins to be removed from the access opening.
The system safely prevents the operator from storing or retrieving goods while the tray is still in motion. This reduces the number of operating errors caused by the interruption of the active safety light barriers, which in turn minimizes waiting times resulting from the unnecessary stops and restarts. The result is increased the productivity of the system and the operator.
Access Ready lights are a simple tool designed for the improving the operators overall performance. Notifying the operator when it is safe to pick orders, their picking productivity increases due to the reduction in the amount of times the light barrier is interrupted. This new upgrade is quick and easy to install on existing units, allowing for seamless integration.
