Monitor the load of an overhead crane with shock load prevention from Konecranes

Listen to this article

Konecranes offers Shock Load Prevention, an automated solution that extends the lifetime of the overhead crane and also reduces the risk of damaging valuable loads and surroundings. This improvement for Konecranes’ overhead lifting cranes automatically reduces the stress caused when a load is picked up roughly or abruptly, shock loading the crane and runway. Shock load prevention has been designed to minimize potential damage to the crane, load, and building. In addition, this smart feature increases the efficiency of the lifting process and results in a decreased cycle time. Shock Load Prevention from Konecranes has been designed to ensure smooth load pickup. The crane’s hoist drive monitors the load, and when a quick load change is detected (when slack chains/slings become tight) the system slows down until the load is lifted. This reduces or eliminates impact loadings that would cause the crane to wear. In turn, it reduces crane related maintenance costs and increases the crane’s lifetime.

Additionally, Shock Load Prevention from Konecranes is completely automatic. Even the most experienced operators can struggle to eliminate shock load effects during lift-off, so this feature makes the lifting process much less stressful and allows operators to focus on other aspects of the task at hand. Shock Load Prevention fully demonstrates how Konecranes is committed not only to engineering excellence, but also to maximizing the lifecycle value of overhead cranes.
