Ametek Prestolite Power hopes customers get a charge out of “Opportunity Charging” video

Executives at AMETEK Prestolite Power were scratching their heads to figure out an effective and unique way to make their customers aware of the company’s new “opportunity charging” system. In the industrial arena, traditional marketing techniques rarely give way to more creative, innovative and consumer-style methods to get the word out about new products and services.   When Jeff Harrison, director of sales and marketing for the AMETEK Prestolite Power, a business unit of the $4.2 billion AMETEK, Inc., suggested an animated video, it was like the proverbial light bulb suddenly turned on in their heads.

How do you understand the impact of opportunity charging?  Using cartoon-like characters, the video clearly explains and colorfully illustrates the opportunity charging concept, which leverages a lift truck operator’s break time to recharge battery power and wirelessly keeps track of efficiency, existing power and other key parameters that help a warehouse run smoothly with reduced downtime and significantly less space.

“Our new video shows why the old method of manually replacing partially or totally discharged batteries with freshly charged motive batteries is a thing of the past,” said Harrison.   “Now, our opportunity charging system charges the batteries while they are still in the lift truck and while the operators are taking their breaks.  The bottom line: less employee downtime, longer battery life, a safer and more environmentally friendly workplace and greater overall efficiency.”

AMETEK Prestolite Power’s recently introduced Wireless Battery Identification Device (WBID) works together with the company’s updated DataLink 2 data analysis software to wirelessly gather battery data, monitor usage and identify potential problems that could lead to downtime.
