ALAN prepares to assist victims of the Midwest tornado disaster

On November 17th, intense thunderstorms and tornadoes swept through the Midwest which caused significant damage in parts of central Illinois.

ALAN will be supporting logistics requests, including requests for transportation and warehouse space as local support groups begin submitting their needs requests. ALAN is sharing a brief blog post on the best way to offer support: http://www.alanaid.org/midwest-storms/

ALAN wants to remind everyone to please remember to “connect before you collect”; before donating, make sure you have spoken directly with an aid group and know precisely what they need, where it needs to go, and how you’ll get it to them.  Many organizations prefer cash so they can buy supplies locally; doing so will help the affected areas recover quickly.

The ALAN portal lists some product-related requests for generators, food, household supplies, tarps, and other goods. While ALAN does not actively solicit product donations, some businesses may wish to see and support those requests.

Because needs are still emerging, we hope you will stay tuned to their website, www.ALANAid.org, to follow developments over the coming days and weeks as they navigate what promises to be an extremely challenging recovery period.

ALAN works in tandem with National Voluntary Organizations Active in Disaster (NVOADs) such as the Red Cross, Feeding America and the Salvation Army to provide much-needed support.

ALAN is still asking for aid for the Phillipines diaster that occurred on November 7th.
