ProMat 2019 releases Student Days agenda

For the 16th consecutive year, MHI is partnering with the College Industry Council on Material Handling Education (CICMHE), Material Handling Equipment Distributors Association (MHEDA) and the Material Handling Education Foundation (MHEFI) to present Student Days at ProMat 2019. With sponsorships from Bastian Solutions, Hanel Storage Systems, The Raymond Company, Toyota Material Handling USA and Vanderlande Industries, over 200 students will have the opportunity to attend ProMat, gain insights about what it’s like to work in the industry and network with other young professionals.

“Student Days” is a series of events for CTE, High School, and University students to engage with industry professionals in real-world discussions about the technologies and the skill sets required for the supply chain, material handling and logistics industry. Students and faculty members will have the opportunity to learn about the industry, hear about the latest innovations and disruptions, and network with industry leaders. MHI is excited to connect material handling and supply chain employers with the workforce of the future.

Wednesday, April 10, 2019 Classroom Day
During Classroom Day, students receive a guided tour of the show floor, led by industry experts, and get to meet the exhibitors (these are the folks who are looking for future employees!) Along with gaining a real world understanding of the products, services and technologies that enable the supply chain, students will walk away feeling inspired and empowered with a broader network of professionals who can support their career goals.

Thursday, April 11, 2019 Industry Tours
CTE students and instructors depart from the McCormick Place to see real world applications at facilities using state-of-the-art material handling and supply chain technologies.

Who Can Attend Student Days
Students 16 years and older may attend Student Days. (Students must be 16 due to insurance requirements.) A faculty member is required to attend with students under the age of 18. Students are REQUIRED to dress and act professionally

We have a space limit of 250 attendees, and registration is first come, first served. We encourage students to keep their word and deliver on their commitments, values that the material handling and supply chain industry promotes. Cancellations are required 30 days before the event outside of emergencies.

Travel Grants – A limited amount of travel grants are available to help cover costs for schools. Travel grants of $200/person will be offered on a first come, first serve basis for:

  • University students 50+ miles from the event – up to 9 students and one faculty member per school
  • CTE students 50+ miles from the event – up to 4 students and one faculty member per school
  • Schools within 50 miles – To encourage local schools to participate in Student Days, there will be a $250 stipend for bringing at least 5 students.

Additional students and faculty are encouraged to attend Student Days but may not be eligible for travel grants. If there are additional funds to support more students and staff, MHI will conduct a second round of allocating Travel Grants to ensure we fund as many students as possible. Faculty member(s) MUST be present with students and attend the entire event.

Once all travel grants are allocated, any additional requests during registration will be placed on a waiting list. For the schools approved to receive travel grants, all names of attending faculty and students must be submitted to MHI by February 28, 2019.

Travel grants are paid directly to departments/schools within thirty days of the event pending compliance of the Student Days Code of Conduct requirements and confirmation of attendance.
