The Women In Trucking Association (WIT) welcomes Ryder System, Inc. as its newest Gold Level Partner, helping the nonprofit association’s efforts to increase the number of women employed in the transportation industry.

Ryder is an $8.4 billion commercial fleet management, dedicated transportation, and supply chain solutions company, with operations in the U.S., Canada, Mexico, and the U.K. The Company, founded in 1933, operates behind the scenes, managing critical transportation and logistics functions for more than 50,000 customers, many of which make the products that consumers use every day. Ryder employs 39,600 people, manages a fleet of more than 270,000 commercial vehicles, and operates more than 55 million square feet of warehouse space.

Delores Lail, senior vice president of Sales for Ryder, Fleet Management Solutions, East Region will serve on the WIT Board of Directors.

“With strategic partnerships, such as one with the Women in Trucking Association, we actively encourage and support the employment of women in the transportation industry,” said Lail. “Additionally, Ryder has a focus on recruiting more women to the industry, specifically veterans. Earlier this year, Ryder was named among “America’s Best Employers for Women” by Forbes magazine in its first-ever ranking. I can assure you we will continue to cultivate a culture that ensures Ryder remains a leader in our industry and one of America’s best employers.”

“We’re grateful to business leaders like Ryder for their support to advancing our mission,” said Ellen Voie, WIT president and CEO. “Partnerships like these will help us continue to generate dialogue and action around the importance of gender diversity in transportation and logistics.”

Women In Trucking Association is a resource for over 4,000 corporate and individual members located in the United States, Canada, and Mexico, as well as Japan, Australia, Sweden, South Africa, and New Zealand. Since its inception in 2007, WIT has made great strides toward advancing gender diversity in transportation and logistics. The annual Accelerate! Conference and Expo, the WIT Index which monitors the representation of women in the industry, scholarships for transportation careers, and a community app that empowers members with knowledge and mentorship are just a few examples of recent initiatives that are helping the organization achieve its mission.
