Crown Equipment Corporation announced that Tonja Rammel, environmental, health and safety manager, recently appeared as a panelist at this year’s Ohio Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) Compliance Assistance Conference in Columbus, Ohio, September 23 – 24. The panel session, “Strategies for Success: How Can Your Organization Go Above and Beyond?,” showcased how three different Ohio organizations exceeded environmental requirements to further improve the environment, achieve compliance and improve the bottom line for their businesses. Jerry Crabb, senior director of ballpark operations for the Cleveland Indians and Mark Mays, chief of installation management division for Wright-Patterson Air Force Base, joined Rammel on the panel.

During the session, Rammel discussed the numerous efforts Crown has made to minimize waste, manage energy and maximize lifespan throughout its operations, including details of how three of its facilities have achieved zero landfill status. She shared the company’s view of sustainability as a long-term, strategic approach that includes social, environmental and economic opportunities to achieve business objectives and contribute to a more sustainable world. She also explained how this approach provides Crown with a platform for minimizing the environmental impact of their manufacturing operation and products.

“At Crown, sustainability is integrated into our day-to-day business process and our global business strategy,” said Rammel. “Our commitment to sustainability is ingrained into our product development and manufacturing processes, as well as our efforts to help customers become more sustainable. I’m honored to have been a part of this panel and help other businesses and organizations understand how they can follow Crown’s lead and go beyond the requirements of environmental regulations to make their communities a better place to live and work.”

In April 2014, the Ohio EPA recognized Crown Equipment’s New Knoxville manufacturing facility with the state’s highest environmental honor – the first-ever gold level facility in the EPA’s Encouraging Environmental Excellence (?3) program. The ?3 program acknowledges Ohio businesses and other organizations for completing environmentally beneficial activities and serves as an incentive to commit to ongoing environmental stewardship. The gold level recognizes businesses that exceed regulatory compliance obligations and commit to long-term strategies to reduce waste, lower emissions and improve environmental performance.

Crown’s commitment to environmental sustainability is evident throughout numerous aspects of its operations. The company releases an annual Crown ecologic Report highlighting the company’s sustainability initiatives and accomplishments.
