The Long Beach Board of Harbor Commissioners on Monday awarded $463,750 in sponsorships to 130 organizations supporting the arts, environmental efforts, social justice and historic preservation.

The Port of Long Beach’s community sponsorship program aims to educate and engage the public, highlighting the Port’s vital part in international trade and its key role as a responsible neighbor. Requests for funding are accepted twice a year, in September and March.

The Board approved a $1 million sponsorship budget for the 2019 fiscal year that began Oct. 1.

“Supporting organizations that make our diverse city a great place to live and work is just one of the ways the Harbor Commission seeks to contribute to our community,” said Board of Harbor Commissioners President Tracy Egoscue. “We’re proud that we have the opportunity to interact with the public, and bring awareness of the important role the Port plays in this region.”

Events sponsored for this round of sponsorships include the Friends of the Los Angeles River, the Long Beach Public Library Foundation, Su Casa’s Gala of Light and Willmore City Heritage Association’s Winter in Willmore Snow Day. You can find the full list of funded sponsorships here.

Port staff members attend select sponsored events to provide information about the Port. As part of a sponsorship agreement, recipients also give the Port promotional and advertising opportunities at their events so the Port can spread awareness about its mission.
