Listen to this article

YRC Worldwide Inc. subsidiaries YRC Freight and Holland have joined the U.S. Chamber Foundation’s Hiring Our Heroes program. The program will use technology developed by FASTPORT to connect veterans with careers in trucking.  YRC Worldwide CEO James Welch announced the partnership during his presentation at the SMC3 Connections Conference today.  The Connections Conference is an annual gathering of leading shipper, 3PL, trucking and other industry officials.

“With hundreds of terminals across the United States, we have a strong presence of veterans already in our workforce and we look forward to bringing more former military personnel into the YRC Freight and Holland families,” James Welch shared with the SMC3 transportation professionals. “Our industry-leading health care benefits and a competitive pay package enable us to have the opportunity to place those who have served our country not just in a job but in a career,” added Welch.

Bill McLennan, CEO of FASTPORT, whose technology platform matches veterans with career opportunities and administers the program for the U.S. Chamber stated that, “We look forward to partnering with the YRC Freight and Holland teams to place veterans in jobs that can turn into lifelong careers.  The combination of the FASTPORT technology and the infrastructure YRC Freight and Holland have in place to recruit and train drivers will lead to a powerful partnership.”

Welch was at the SMC3 Connections Conference to kick off the event with an industry outlook covering recent industry economic trends and regulatory issues.
