A third-generation leader helped guide the family-owned material handling company for more than six decades

Voss Equipment, Inc. has announced the passing of Chairman and Chief Executive Officer Peter Voss Jr. on Friday, May 1, 2026.

Peter Voss Jr. dedicated more than six decades to the material handling industry and to the continued growth of the family business founded by his father, Peter Voss Sr., in 1934. After serving three years as a United States Marine Corps officer, Peter joined Voss Equipment in 1961 and later became President of the company in 1980.

Under his leadership, Voss Equipment expanded its presence throughout the Chicagoland region while maintaining its longstanding reputation for dependable service, strong customer relationships, and employee loyalty. Throughout his career, Peter became widely respected across the industry for his integrity, leadership, and commitment to both customers and employees.

Known for his approachable personality and genuine interest in people, Peter built lasting relationships with customers, manufacturers, business partners, and employees throughout the material handling community. His commitment to the Yale Lift Truck brand and to advancing the industry helped establish Voss Equipment as one of the region’s most recognized and enduring dealership organizations.

Today, Voss Equipment remains a fourth-generation family-owned business serving customers across the Chicagoland area with material handling equipment, warehouse solutions, railcar movers, rentals, parts, service, operator training, and fleet support.

Founded in Chicago, Illinois, in 1934, Voss Equipment has proudly served the material handling industry for more than 90 years.
