Episode 549: Candor Food Chain—The coolest innovation in Logistics

Listen to this article

On this episode of The New Warehouse Podcast, Tyler Wiard, Director of Strategic Partnerships at Candor Expedite, shares insights on managing temperature-sensitive freight. He highlights the company’s innovative solutions to overcome the complex challenges in refrigerated freight. Candor Expedite, founded in 2017 by Nicole Glenn, specializes in expedited shipping and strategic partnerships. The conversation spotlights Candor’s newest offering, the Candor Food Chain, a groundbreaking solution for maintaining precise temperature control across diverse freight sizes, from full truckloads to small pallet shipments.

Transparency and Partnership in Freight Solutions

Candor Expedite thrives on its core principles of transparency and customer-centricity, distinguishing itself in a competitive industry. Tyler shared, “We do manual updates every four hours and have GPS tracking on all our loads,” which ensures reliability, especially for partners requiring 24/7 service. He highlighted the importance of dependable communication for 3PLs and warehouse operators, noting, “Candor is that company you can depend on when production runs late or shipments happen on weekends.” Their level of transparency is what allows them to excel under the pressures of high-stakes reefer freight operations.

Addressing Temperature Control Challenges

Temperature-sensitive freight often encounters logistical headaches, particularly for partial loads. Tyler explained, “If I have four pallets of chocolate chips, too small for a full truckload, I’m forced to use reefer LTL, which has significant limitations.” Traditional solutions often fail to guarantee consistent temperature control, creating inefficiencies. Candor Food Chain offers a scalable solution with temperature-controlled pallets and coolers, capable of maintaining -10 to 70 degrees for extended durations—up to nine days for pallets. “This flexibility lets clients ship LTL dry while maintaining temperature integrity,” Tyler emphasized.

Innovating for Sustainability and Efficiency

Sustainability is a growing priority for many companies, and Candor Food Chain meets this demand head-on. Its technology consolidates multi-temperature deliveries, cutting down on vehicle use and emissions. Tyler illustrated this with food service deliveries: “Instead of sending three 53-foot trucks—one frozen, one refrigerated, and one ambient—we use a 26-foot straight truck to deliver all at once.” This approach streamlines operations for retailers, improves parking lot accessibility, and meets corporate sustainability goals. Additionally, eliminating the need for dry ice further reduces costs and environmental impact.

Key Takeaways on Candor Food Chain

  • Candor Food Chain offers precise temperature control for up to nine days, transforming how LTL freight is shipped.
  • Dual and tri-temp capabilities reduce the need for multiple trucks, improving efficiency and sustainability.
  • Clients gain transparency with real-time GPS tracking and temperature logs accessible via a customer portal.
  • The technology eliminates reliance on dry ice, saving costs and offering flexibility for longer transit times.
