A recent donation of $7,500 in products from Akro-Mils is aiding the educational mission of the Lehigh Career & Technical Institute (LCTI) in Schnecksville, Pa. Akro-Mils’ donation to LCTI’s Material Handling Logistics Technology program included plastic storage bins and containers, platform trucks, steel carts, dollies, shelving units and louvered hanging systems. The donated products were sent to LCTI from Akro-Mils’ booth at the 2013 ProMat Show in Chicago. LCTI’s Material Handling Logistics Technology program features a live management system in a functioning warehouse to teach students what it is like to work in a real-world facility — preparing them for a career within the supply chain. The program also teaches special needs students through a learning station where they can learn and practice specific tasks before they work in the live, real-time warehouse serving LCTI’s nine participating school districts. “We want to thank Akro-Mils for this generous donation,” says Sandra J. Himes, LCTI Executive Director. “We at LCTI pride ourselves in providing our students with real-world experiences so they will understand the expectations of the job. By utilizing the materials donated by Akro-Mils, our students will be learning with materials they will see and use in the job market. We are very appreciative of the support of our program.” Founded in 1971, Lehigh Career & Technical Institute is the largest career and technical school in Pennsylvania, offering more than 50 areas of skills training. LCTI provides workforce and industry-relevant educational programs and industry credentials to high school students, adults, incumbent workers and business/industry. A fully blended learning approach integrates theory and extensive hands-on practical experience in state-of-the-art labs.
