International Transportation Foundation awards $25,000 to students seeking Transportation-Related Degrees

Students attending Case Western Reserve University, Penn State University, George Mason University, Missouri University of Science and Technology, and Oregon State University Awarded $5000 Each from the International Bridge, Tunnel & Turnpike Association Foundation

The International Bridge, Tunnel and Turnpike Association (IBTTA)the worldwide association for the owners and operators of toll facilities and the businesses that serve them, announced today this year’s scholarship recipients. Five undergraduates have been selected from across the U.S., each receiving a $5,000 scholarship.

Each year IBTTA’s Foundation awards scholarships to undergraduate students pursuing degrees in a transportation-oriented field of study, including engineering; urban and regional planning; construction management; public administration; and other related fields.

“Transportation is rapidly changing across our globe. Today’s undergraduates will be the future leaders in transportation and the tolling industry,” said Patrick D. Jones, Executive Director and CEO, IBTTA. “This year’s five scholarship winners represent the best and brightest, who will no doubt be transportation change-agents as innovation and new technologies revolutionize how people move about the country and the world.”

The 2019 IBTTA Foundation Scholarship winners, all pursuing degrees in engineering, are:

  • Patricia Cheng, from Herndon, VA, attending Case Western Reserve University;
  • Jon Cowart, from Kennett Square, PA, attending Penn State University;
  • Gabriel Earle, from Fairfax Station, VA, attending George Mason University;
  • Austin Hostettler, from Hermitage, MO, attending Missouri University of Science and Technology;and
  • Allison Van Horn, from Beaverton, OR, attending Oregon State University.

“The IBTTA Foundation is thrilled to offer these five outstanding and deserving students a scholarship to enable them to continue their studies,” said Frank McCartney, Chair, IBTTA Foundation and Principal, FGM Consulting. “The scholarship program was created to assist future transportation leaders with their studies in order to move our industry forward.”

The 2019 scholarship winners will receive their scholarships during the Opening Ceremonies of IBTTA’s 87th Annual Meeting and Exhibition in Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada on September 16, 2019.
