Crown Equipment posts new sustainability report

Crown Equipment Corporation, one of the world’s largest material handling companies, today released a new ecologic report that underscores the company’s commitment to environmental stewardship and sustainability. The report highlights Crown’s recent global efforts to minimize waste, manage energy use, and maximize product and facility lifespan.

The report also emphasizes Crown’s efforts to explore and implement ecologically conscious practices in every facet of its business, illustrating a commitment to employees, communities and customers. Successes include the redevelopment of more than half a million square meters of brownfield space to date, five facilities achieving zero landfill status, and Crown’s New Knoxville plant earning the first-ever, gold-level Environmental Excellence Award from the Ohio EPA’s Encouraging Environmental Excellence (E3) program. Crown became a two-time recipient of the award with its electronics assembly plant earning another gold-level award earlier this year. The company also collaborates with suppliers to improve the supply chain through optimized logistics that increase energy efficiency and reduce carbon emissions.

“At the end of the day, it ‘s more than just being sustainable at your own company, but contributing to the world and working with everyone you touch, including customers and vendors,” said John Long, senior vice president warehousing, Dot Foods. “It’s always exciting to understand partners that are committed to sustainability like Crown.”

According to Brian Duffy, Crown’s director of corporate environmental and manufacturing safety, a commitment to environmental stewardship and sustainability has always been an inherent part of Crown’s business. The company and its employees understand they have a responsibility and opportunity to contribute to the health, prosperity and sustainability of future generations; and they take that responsibility seriously. From product design to truck operation, Crown makes important decisions that reduce its environmental footprint through increased energy efficiency, lean business processes, smart resource consumption and elimination of waste.
