Hyster-Yale Group recently hosted Kentucky Congressman Andy Barr at its manufacturing facility in Berea, Ky. The visit, which included a discussion with Hyster-Yale Group executives and a plant tour, allowed Congressman Barr the opportunity to see firsthand the company’s contribution to the Madison County economy, a chance to discuss topics and legislation affecting U.S. manufacturers as well as opportunities surrounding STEM education.

“These local Congressional visits are part of our year-round efforts to showcase the great work being done in American manufacturing, and to educate our elected officials on the challenges and opportunities facing lift truck manufacturers,” said Chuck Pascarelli, President of the Americas for Hyster-Yale Group. “We take great pride in our business, people and process, and are committed to working closely with national, state and local leaders to inspire positive change.”

During the plant tour, the Congressman stopped at multiple stations where individuals from various disciplines explained the background and importance of the company’s manufacturing processes and departments. This allowed Congressman Barr to gain an in-depth perspective on the types of jobs available at the facility, the skills required for each and the ways in which Hyster-Yale Group is partnering with secondary and technical schools to recruit and train a new generation of manufacturing associates.

The Hyster-Yale Group Berea, Ky. manufacturing facility, which opened in 1973 and now spans over 508,000-square-feet, is also home to the company’s Applications Engineering, Special Products Engineering Department, Product Maintenance/Design, Service Engineering and Supplier Quality Engineering (SQE) teams. In 2011, the facility received the prestigious 2011 Plant Engineering Top Plant award which honors outstanding manufacturing facilities in North America.
