Philadelphia Scientific introduces line of Blinky- battery watering monitors

Philadelphia Scientific, The Lean Battery Room Experts™, has introduced its new, improved line of Blinky™ battery watering monitors. The monitors all have brighter LED lights – two to eight times brighter than the previous models – making them more visible to forklift operators and battery room personnel. The monitors are more robust, too, and feature an installation “forgiveness zone,” which reduces the potential for damaging the monitors due to improper installation.

“The enhancements to the Blinky family are designed to promote better battery watering practices,” said Harold Vanasse, Philadelphia Scientific’s vice president of sales and marketing. “The brighter LED lights are easier to see, providing a much clearer indication that a battery requires watering. And the monitors, including the LED housing, are more robust, making them less resistant to breakage.

“But the most exciting change in the Blinky family is the new installation forgiveness zone, which makes the product more forgiving of installation error. The forgiveness zone is a specific voltage range in which the LED won’t come on, but in which the fuse won’t blow when the monitor is connected incorrectly. The safety fuse will blow when the voltage exceeds the forgiveness zone range, but this new feature will reduce the chances of blowing a fuse and the need to replace the monitor. All these enhancements are designed to save time and money in the battery room. Warehouse personnel will love the Blinky family’s reliability and ease of use.”

The Blinky family of battery watering monitors includes:

  • Smart Blinky Remote™ – Featuring green and red LEDs contained in a single housing that are six times brighter than the previous model. Smart Blinky Remote steadily flashes green when electrolyte levels are okay. When electrolyte levels are low, the red LED flashes rapidly, providing clear indication that watering is required. The monitor’s Smart Sensing Technology protects against false fill signals and premature watering, minimizing boil overs. The improved Smart Blinky Remote also features a wider voltage operating zone. It is stronger and has a lower profile, too, reducing the possibility of damage. This Blinky is ideal for batteries that do not leave the truck or for batteries that are charged on multi-level racks. For such applications, the indicator LED can be edge mounted for high visibility.
  • Smart Blinky™ – Like Smart Blinky Remote, Smart Blinky features red and green flashing LEDs in a single housing to indicate that a battery needs watering or is okay. The new LEDs are eight times brighter than the previous model. The improved Smart Blinky also features Smart Sensing Technology and a wider voltage operating zone.
  • Blinky Basic – The original watering monitor that revolutionized the checking of electrolyte levels in industrial batteries. The new Blinky Basic’s green light is twice as bright as the previous model. It flashes steadily when electrolyte levels are okay and goes out when water is needed. The LED housing is more robust, too, providing for long-term reliability.

All three Blinky monitors are UL Classified.
