Advantech’s PWS-870 10″ fully rugged tablet now available with Windows 10

Advantech, a mobile computing platform provider, is pleased to announce that its PWS-870 fully rugged tablet PC is now available with Windows 10 Mobile Enterprise. Featuring an Intel® Core™ i3/i5/i7 processor with integrated graphics and turbo boost, as well as a high brightness (800 cd/m²) 10.1” HD capacitive multi-touch panel that supports viewing in direct sunlight, Advantech’s PWS-870 is designed to provide an industry-specific solution for field service management, manufacturing execution systems, mobile outdoor operations and fleet management.

Powerful Intel® Core™ processor equipped with Windows 10 mobile enterprise
To satisfy the demands of remote management and extreme field environments, the PWS-870’s fourth-generation Intel® Core™ i3/i5/i7 processor is equipped with integrated graphics and turbo boost technology, as well as Microsoft’s latest Windows 10 Mobile Enterprise operating system for superior performance. Windows 10 Mobile Enterprise is designed for smaller, mobile, touch-centric devices such as smart phones and tablet devices with ARM and IA-32 processor architectures (with support for both vertical and horizontal tablet panels). With increasingly mobile workforces, secure access to network resources is a priority for every organization. Windows 10 Mobile Enterprise provides organizations with:

  • Enterprise-grade security

Built-in defenses to help protect your critical business information from leaks or theft technologies like Secure Boot, BitLocker, Device Guard and Credential Guard help ensure your devices are protected from power-on to power-off

  • Higher synergy in connecting to Azure Cloud Services

Enhance contemporary mobile cloud-based computing scenarios and allow businesses to manage devices from a cloud

  • Seamless sensor/gateway communications

Leverages the power of Active Directory and System Center to deliver built-in mobile device management capabilities

  • Greater platform consistency

Available to run one app on multiple devices as well as connect devices to an external display for use and utilize a PC-like interface with mouse and keyboard input support

Flexible peripheral package customization
The key advantage of PWS-870 is its high customizability. In addition to the standard peripherals, which include two USB 3.0 ports, one USB 2.0 port, one audio jack, an HDMI connector, front and rear-facing 2M/5M cameras, a 1D/2D barcode reader, and a NFC reader for in-field data collection, PWS-870 can be equipped with numerous flexible accessories, allowing the system to be customized to satisfy specific needs. Optional accessories and peripherals include:

  • Desk and vehicle docking stations
  • Universal cover with four hands-free carry options (handle, stand, bag, and hand strap)
  • Comprehensive extension module with MSR, UHF RFID, and I/O support (Including USB, LAN, and RS232 HDMI)
  • Multiple battery charger and hot-swappable battery provides up to 8 hours of operation, and can be recharged in transit using the vehicle docking station
  • FSP A/D 100-240V 65W 19V adapter compatible with 90 ~ 264 V AC input

Comprehensive hardware and software platform
Increasing demands for field services and mobile asset management necessitate field service management systems that support on-demand data access, wireless communication, real-time positioning, and automated operations. The PWS-870 is equipped with built-in Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, WWAN, and GNSS modules that support real-time communication and vehicle positioning (accurate up to 2.5 meters), enabling the automation of critical functions such as reporting and dispatching, and providing a real-time communication link between field staff and the back-end information control center. The inclusion of advanced communication technologies 4G LTE and 802.11 a/b/g/n/ac drastically increases Internet connection speeds and supports multiple data streams, enabling management to monitor the on-site status and assign tasks remotely while providing field staff with access to GIS data, Google maps, and site maps via the enterprise cloud server. Finally, with most utility work occurring in the field, such devices must be rugged, able to withstand impacts and drops from rough handling, and offer protection from dust, water, and extreme temperatures. The PWS_870’s fully rugged design is MIL-STD-810G and IP65 certified and can withstand drops of up to 4 ft. Additionally, the sunlight-readable, multi-touch 10.1” Gorilla® Glass display panel with optional high brightness (800 cd/m2) supports operation in outdoor environments and harsh weather conditions.

With the ruggedness to withstand extreme environments and deliver reliable high performance, in addition to the remote monitoring, asset management, and predictive maintenance applications available with Windows 10 Mobile Enterprise, Advantech’s innovative PWS-870 rugged tablet offers a complete mobile computing platform with the necessary hardware and software for enterprises seeking to improve operational productivity.
