Bishop-Wisecarver hosts National Manufacturing Day 2018 activities on Friday, October 5th

Bishop-Wisecarver, an industrial automation company offering proven motion solutions that are expertly designed and delivered to perform, has announced it will host tours of their facility for students and community members during this year’s seventh annual National Manufacturing Day (#MFGDay18) event. Activities include an on-the-floor plant tour, a career panel and a hands-on engineering challenge.

Manufacturing Day (MFG Day) was created in 2012 as an annual event on the first Friday of every October by the National Association of Manufacturers (NAM). The continued goal is to introduce young people and others in the community to the manufacturing sector and career opportunities, and to demonstrate the contributions manufacturing makes to the local economy. More than 267,000 students and nearly 600,000 overall participants have joined in MFG Day events in the past six years. Of those, 84 percent said the event convinced them that manufacturing careers were interesting and rewarding and 64 percent said they were more motivated to pursue careers in manufacturing.

“Events like MFG Day are vital in helping students and community members see the positive realities of manufacturing and dispel some of the myths that have kept them from pursuing a career in this industry,” said Pamela Kan, President of Bishop-Wisecarver. “Our company has been in the community for nearly 70 years and it is my passion to help students, parents, teachers and local residents see the truth of today’s manufacturing industry. From high-paying salaries to problem-solving challenges that impact lives to extensive job openings, a career in manufacturing is a great opportunity for so many.”

Key manufacturing statistics for California provided by NAM:

  • Manufacturers in California account for 11.33 percent of the total output in the state, equaling $278.58 billion in 2015
  • California manufacturers employ 7.8 percent of the workforce, providing 1,284,100 jobs
  • Annual compensation for manufacturing workers was $96,711 in 2015

Bishop-Wisecarver is partnering with Earn and Learn East Bay and the Contra Costa County Office of Education to reach out and organize participation from as many local schools as possible for this year’s MFG Day event. Union Bank is also partnering to provide t-shirts for all participants. Anyone interested in attending should contact Breanna Chan at [email protected].
