BEUMER “Made Different” makes a difference for 40 years

For four decades, BEUMER Corporation has been a leader in the North American material handling industry.

A subsidiary of the global BEUMER Group, the business is part of both a worldwide enterprise and a family-run operation that provides a wealth of services and solutions to its customers.

The global operation bills itself as an “international manufacturing leader in intra-logistics in the fields of conveying, loading, palletizing, packaging, sortation and distribution technology.”

“BEUMER Group offers the right solution for almost every logistic challenge,” says the company website.

In the North American corporation celebrating its 40th anniversary this year, the business delivers this same full suite of solutions and services, according to John Sarinick, chief sales officer for BEUMER Corporation.

“As a global company, we’re able to leverage our worldwide network of expertise and experience to deliver the best solutions possible to our customers,” said Sarinick, explaining the advantages of being part of a worldwide operation in an email to Material Handling Wholesaler. The roots of the business are in Beckham, Germany.

BEUMER Maschinenfabrik was founded in 1935 as a manufacturing company for conveying equipment, with the first orders coming from area cement, lime and mining companies, according to a history published on the company website. The business expanded from there, founding the American arm of the company in 1977, followed by Australia in 1983 and Brazil in 1993. The following year, the BEUMER Corporation began directly marketing sortation and distribution systems.

Recent years have seen further expansions, including the foundation of a subsidiary in China in 2006 and the acquisition of Crisplant a/s in Denmark in 2009.

Today, the business covers over 70 countries worldwide and has 4,000 employees, over 300 of which are based in North America. The North American locations include offices in Kansas City, Missouri; Somerset, New Jersey; Arlington, Texas and Canada.

The Somerset office serves as the North American headquarters and has a warehouse with a full spare parts inventory as well as a research and development testing area and some system assembly, according to Sarinick.

The Arlington, Texas, office has a production warehouse for the Airports division, producing conventional airport baggage handling technology, including conveyor Sarinick said.

“BEUMER Corporation has a diverse customer base spanning across its four business lines,” he said. Airports and airlines are served from the airport baggage handling line. Postal, courier, express and parcel markets, along with e-commerce, apparel and fashion industries are served by sortation and distribution. Palletizing and packaging and conveying and loading serve a variety of markets: cement, lime, gypsum, mining and minerals, ports and terminals, power and chemical, and petrochemical.

Sustainability is a major focus within the business, efforts that Sarinick said are viewed as a “core company value.” BEUMER has built and implemented its own sustainability index, which measures economics, environmental and social responsibility components.

“This is critical in delivering best-in-class solutions, as well as fulfilling our responsibility to our customers, employees, the environment and society,” Sarinick said.

He added that the fortieth anniversary of the U.S. operation is viewed with pride throughout the company.

“We’re looking forward to the next forty years of delivering best-in-class material handling solutions to our customers in North America,” Sarinick said. “Our company slogan , “Made Different,” is more than just a saying. Our philosophy to focus on our business from a long-term perspective not only sets us apart from competition, but allows us to focus on what matters most; quality, sustainability and innovation.”
