AAR reports Rail Traffic for the week ending June 27, 2026

The Association of American Railroads (AAR) has reported U.S. rail traffic for the week ending June 27, 2026.

For this week, total U.S. weekly rail traffic was 525,474 carloads and intermodal units, up 7.0 percent compared with the same week last year.

Total carloads for the week ending June 27 were 232,408 carloads, up 3.3 percent compared with the same week in 2025, while U.S. weekly intermodal volume was 293,066 containers and trailers, up 10.1 percent compared to 2025.

Nine of the 10 carload commodity groups posted an increase compared with the same week in 2025. They included metallic ores and metals, up 3,911 carloads, to 23,663; grain, up 1,281 carloads, to 22,289; and farm products excl. grain, and food, up 977 carloads, to 18,062. One commodity group posted a decrease compared with the same week in 2025: motor vehicles and parts, down 853 carloads, to 16,470.

For the first 25 weeks of 2026, U.S. railroads reported cumulative volume of 5,681,611 carloads, up 3.2 percent from the same point last year; and 6,984,982 intermodal units, up 3.3 percent from last year. Total combined U.S. traffic for the first 25 weeks of 2026 was 12,666,593 carloads and intermodal units, an increase of 3.3 percent compared to last year.

North American rail volume for the week ending June 27, 2026, on 9 reporting U.S., Canadian and Mexican railroads totaled 339,542 carloads, up 2.9 percent compared with the same week last year, and 380,311 intermodal units, up 6.9 percent compared with last year. Total combined weekly rail traffic in North America was 719,853 carloads and intermodal units, up 5.0 percent. North American rail volume for the first 25 weeks of 2026 was 17,428,272 carloads and intermodal units, up 2.7 percent compared with 2025.

Canadian railroads reported 92,850 carloads for the week, up 4.0 percent, and 73,175 intermodal units, down 6.3 percent compared with the same week in 2025. For the first 25 weeks of 2026, Canadian railroads reported cumulative rail traffic volume of 4,117,982 carloads, containers and trailers, up 0.5 percent.

Mexican railroads reported 14,284 carloads for the week, down 8.5 percent compared with the same week last year, and 14,070 intermodal units, up 21.1 percent. Cumulative volume on Mexican railroads for the first 25 weeks of 2026 was 643,697 carloads and intermodal containers and trailers, up 7.8 percent from the same point last year.
