Power Machinery Center, a UniCarriers Americas Corporation (UCA) dealer, currently employs seven of the 14 Certified Masters Technicians in the UniCarriers University program.

With locations in Oxnard and Bakersfield, Calif., family-owned Power Machinery Center has been a distributor of quality material handling and warehouse equipment for three generations. In addition to providing on-site repairs, maintenance and service for forklifts and utility carts, Power Machinery Center, a UCA dealer since the mid-1980s, received platinum and gold level honors from UCA’s 2014 Aftermarket Excellence Awards.

According to Scott Power, vice president at Power Machinery Center, the company has received numerous benefits from its team members’ certifications. Power said the Master Technician certification has led to a higher first-time repair rate. Additionally, the access to unlimited training programs, such as those offered by UCA, has made the company more attractive to prospective new hires.

“We are lucky to have so many employees who want to learn, grow and become better overall technicians,” Power said. “UniCarriers University’s program teaches not just about UCA’s forklifts, but a great number of basic principles for all types of forklifts.”

“Since day one, Power Machinery Center’s team has been a leader in taking advantage of the education provided through the UniCarriers University program,” said Josh Landreman, senior manager of product support at UCA. “We hope to see more technicians build reliability and expertise through the benefits of this training program.”

Launched in 2012, UniCarriers University’s mission is to create a state-of-the-art educational platform that establishes UCA’s service technicians and salespeople as the most highly skilled and knowledgeable material handling equipment representatives in the industry.

The curriculum-based program for the College of Technical Service offers three certification levels of achievement – Apprentice, Journeyman and Master Technician. The programs are designed to build on the knowledge base of each technician, and technicians can achieve certifications through a mix of online training, classroom instruction and ASE certification.
