Hyster celebrates build of 1,000th ReachStacker

Hyster Company celebrates a significant milestone with the build of the 1,000th ReachStacker at its big truck factory in Nijmegen, Netherlands. The 1,000th ReachStacker is one of three Hyster® RS46-36 ReachStackers that will be used at the PCH Packing Center Hamburg GmbH (PCH), in the Port of Hamburg, to transport and stack shipping containers in the first, second and third rows.

“Not only is the 1,000th ReachStacker build a historic event for Hyster, but it is also one of the first Tier 4 Final trucks to be delivered to a customer,” said Brett Schemerhorn, President of Big Trucks, Americas, Hyster Company. “With the optimized ‘right sized’ engine, we can provide up to 25 percent in fuel savings compared to trucks built five years ago, while also meeting the performance and reliability requirements of Hyster customers today.”

Hyster ReachStackers, including the RS46-36 models, and 80,000 – 105,000 pound capacity trucks now come standard with a Tier 4 Final Cummins QSL 9L engine with peak power of 363hp, as well as a Dana Spicer Off-Highway TE 32 powershift transmission. Hyster 40,000 – 70,000 pound capacity trucks and empty container handlers, feature a Tier 4 Final Cummins QSB 6.7L engine with a ZF WG 211 5-speed powershift transmission, which offers similar performance benefits.

These trucks offer excellent fuel consumption, maximum productivity, low emissions and a long service life – resulting in lower total cost of ownership. The integrated drivetrain with emission reduction package includes cooled exhaust gas recirculation (EGR), a selective catalytic reduction (SCR) system for nitrogen oxide (NOX) reduction, a diesel oxidation catalyst (DOC) for particulate matter removal and a diesel exhaust fluid (DEF) delivery system to meet the Tier 4 Final legislation. In addition to the Tier 4 Final engine technology, Hyster big truck performance optimization developments, such as ECO-eLo mode, on-demand cooling, automatic throttle-up and hibernate engine idle speed, help further reduce total fuel consumption.

“The Hyster ReachStacker offers proven high performance, particularly in continuous operations,” said Herman Klaus, Director of Big Truck Application Solutions, Hyster Company. “With the engine, transmission and hydraulic protection systems, Hyster helps ensure excellent reliability and productivity for even the most challenging port operations while generating significant fuel savings.”

Hyster tracked the 1,000th ReachStacker build from start-to-finish, and will continue to follow the truck as it begins operation at PCH.
