Partnering with The Salvation Army to Extend Tips to Prepare Before Disaster Strikes Bobcat Company and The Salvation Army are spotlighting National Preparedness Month by raising awareness of the importance of emergency readiness. Each September, National Preparedness Month encourages Americans to prepare for disasters or emergencies in their homes, businesses, and communities to help keep people safe. The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) reported 27 individual weather and climate disasters in the U.S. in 2024, resulting in more than $182.7 billion in damages – making it the fourth-costliest year on record. September also marks peak hurricane season, according to the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), which can bring flooding, debris damage, power outages, and extensive cleanup efforts to homes, schools, and businesses. In recognition of National Preparedness Month, Bobcat is highlighting both the essential equipment that powers individuals and communities through challenging times and the valued partnerships that help organizations overcome hardship. In 2024, Bobcat supported The Salvation Army, one of the nation’s largest disaster response organizations, in the aftermath of Hurricanes Helene and Milton by donating 23 essential pieces of equipment valued at $885,000. This equipment included forklifts, portable generators, and light towers. These donations supported The Salvation Army in responding immediately to these disasters without the cost and delay of renting critical equipment, enhancing its ability to serve affected communities effectively. “Partners like Bobcat make it possible for The Salvation Army to respond swiftly and effectively when communities are devastated by disaster,” said Commissioner Merle Heatwole, National Commander of The Salvation Army. “Their generosity ensures we can bring relief and hope to those who need it most.” The Salvation Army deploys trained staff, volunteers, and mobile feeding units to provide meals, shelter, emotional care, and recovery support. With a presence in nearly every ZIP code across the U.S., the organization can respond quickly and remain in communities long after the initial crisis has passed. During recent responses, the forklifts Bobcat donated helped unload thousands of pallets of water and food, while the donated generators powered mobile kitchens and feeding sites. “Bobcat equipment is often at the forefront of helping communities rebuild after natural disasters,” said Mike Ballweber, president of Doosan Bobcat North America, Inc. “Our collaboration with The Salvation Army allows Bobcat and our equipment to make an even greater impact, empowering The Salvation Army to maximize their efforts in doing the most good.” Emergencies and natural disasters require both preparedness and reliable equipment. By providing essential tools and supporting key partnerships, Bobcat empowers individuals, businesses, and communities to respond efficiently, safely, and effectively when every moment counts. Portable Generators Portable generators are a crucial component of disaster response. On remote sites or in areas affected by power outages, portable generators provide reliable energy for critical tasks, from powering tools and water pumps to supporting temporary medical sites and search and rescue efforts. The Bobcat PG50 portable generator delivers 50 kVA (40 kW) of power, quiet 64 dB(A) operation, long runtimes, and built-in safety features. In comparison, the PG100 portable generator provides 100 kVA (80 kW) at 67 dB(A) and versatile power output for construction, events, municipalities, and de-watering applications. Portable Light Towers Light towers are equally vital for emergency and construction operations, providing illumination for safe, 24-hour productivity. The Bobcat PL65 portable light tower features a 119-hour runtime, a mast that rotates 360 degrees, a 23-foot maximum height, and independent lights for broad coverage. Its clamshell-style canopy ensures quick and safe access to service points. Tips to Prepare Beyond equipment, there are several steps communities and even individuals can take to prepare for a disaster or emergency. The Salvation Army offers the following tips to prepare: Create an emergency plan: Outline where you will meet if separated and how you will reconnect; make a list of organizations that provide shelter and food; and follow practical home safety steps like shutting off water and gas. Prepare an emergency supply kit: Include items such as water, nonperishable food, flashlights, extra batteries, matches, a power pack, a dust mask, gloves, prescriptions, eyeglasses or contacts, and photocopies of identification documents. Learn lifesaving skills: Get certified in CPR and first aid. Check your insurance policies: Ensure you have coverage for hazards you may face in your area. Connect with an existing agency: Become familiar with local organizations trained in disaster response and relief, or see if your area supports a Community Emergency Response Team (CERT). For many, accessing the essential tools – and support – is the first step forward after a devastating disaster. Bobcat has a rich history of strengthening disaster response in the U.S. and is proud of its partnership with The Salvation Army.

As fleets seek sustainable energy solutions, propane delivers 99% reduction in NOx alongside increased reliability This Earth Day, the Propane Education & Research Council (PERC) is highlighting propane and renewable propane as key solutions for cutting emissions and delivering reliable energy amid global sustainability efforts. As a safe, clean, and readily available energy source that produces 52 percent fewer greenhouse gas emissions than the electric grid, propane supports both the environment and communities striving for more sustainable, resilient energy. “Too often the energy conversation turns toward a choice between sustainability and reliability; propane proves that you don’t have to choose,” said Tucker Perkins, president and CEO of PERC. “With extreme weather events on the rise, we need solutions that are as resilient as they are clean. Propane is widely available and rises to the challenge of keeping our planet clean and our communities up and running.” In addition to being a low-carbon energy source, propane is nontoxic and does not contaminate soil or water, making it a safe choice for material handling professionals and the communities in which they operate. Propane-powered terminal tractors are significantly cleaner than their diesel counterparts with a 99 percent reduction in nitrogen oxides (NOx). These engines are also certified to the California Air Resources Board’s (CARB) 0.02 grams per brake horsepower-hour (g/bhp-hr) regulation. These engines are even cleaner when they operate with renewable propane. Made from renewable feedstocks, renewable propane offers the same benefits of conventional propane power, performance, and reliability, but with even lower emissions. Renewable propane can be used in any current propane engine or infrastructure without modifications, providing another smart solution along the path to zero emissions. Beyond its environmental benefits, propane provides material handling professionals with reliability and energy resilience because it is a portable energy source that can power equipment and be delivered independently from the electric grid. Propane-powered forklifts can be operated indoors and outdoors, don’t lose speed or power over time, can last an entire 8-hour shift on one cylinder, and can be quickly refueled with a new cylinder with minimal downtime. Because propane can be stored onsite and doesn’t rely on the grid, propane equipment can continue to operate in the aftermath of natural disasters like hurricanes, wildfires, blizzards or blackouts. Propane can also support electric material handling fleets with propane-powered EV charging. The technology utilizes a small-scale, self-sufficient nanogrid with a propane-powered generator. The infrastructure operates independently from the electric grid to keep EV fleets moving. “Propane continues to be a trusted energy source in material handling applications across the U.S.,” said Jim Bunsey, senior manager of business development at PERC. “With even lower emissions thanks to the latest in renewable propane development, as well as the ability to bolster fleet power with independent micro-grid technology, propane is making material handling fleets more sustainable and resilient than ever.”

Camera system detects pedestrians near the lift truck in both indoor and outdoor environments, triggers alerts for operator awareness Hyster announces the launch of its pedestrian awareness camera, the latest addition to its lineup of Hyster Reaction™ operator assist technologies. The camera system can accurately identify pedestrians at ranges up to 16 feet through a 110-degree field of view and automatically alerts the lift truck operator when a pedestrian is detected. The system is available with audible, visual, and optional traction alerts. Upon pedestrian detection, a voiceover communicates pedestrian proximity, and a light indicates which zone the pedestrian is in on the truck-mounted operator remote. Traction alerts go a step further by automatically and gradually slowing down the lift truck, an effect similar to the operator removing their foot from the accelerator. While the operator remains in ultimate control of the equipment, this deceleration effect is intended to get their attention and encourage them to avoid the detected pedestrian by applying the brakes, steering away or both. “Operator situational awareness is a critical element of forklift and pedestrian safety, and our continued investment in Hyster Reaction operator assist solutions is meant to provide an extra layer of support as they navigate their surroundings,” says Steven LaFevers, Vice President, Global Emerging Technology, Hyster. “Our goal with the pedestrian awareness solution is to provide technology that operators can easily understand and use, capable of performing reliably in real-world applications – whether at a lumber yard, construction site or heavy manufacturing environment.” The pedestrian awareness detection system was developed using extensive photographic data collected from worksites. It adapts to various lighting and environmental conditions, and can be used for both indoor and outdoor forklift applications. The system is optimized for travel speeds of 5 miles per hour or less, giving operators ample time to identify alerts and react to avoid contact. The camera is mounted to the rear, forks-trailing side of the lift truck, and alerts disengage once the identified pedestrian is no longer in view of the camera. The system is available in multiple configurations, allowing operations to get audible and visual alerts only, or take advantage of all three, including traction alerts that engage deceleration. The pedestrian awareness camera is the latest addition to the Hyster Reaction lineup of operator assist technologies that take input from the work environment and equipment status to alert operators and adjust lift truck performance.

The American Society of Safety Professionals (ASSP) has planned another installment of its standards education series called “Stand Up for Standards.” A live two-hour webinar on fall protection and restraint implementation will take place at 10 a.m. CT on May 8, helping safety and health professionals identify and mitigate the hazards of working at height. “Stand Up for Standards: ANSI/ASSP Fall Protection and Restraint Implementation” will provide an overview and best practices for implementing the Z359 standards. These key standards address fall protection equipment and systems for climbing, work positioning, fall arrest, rescue, evacuation and other fall hazards. Safety experts Thomas Kramer, P.E., CSP, Dan Henn, Don Hurley, CSP, and Lauren Bauerschmidt, CSP, will share practical guidance, safety resources and real-world experiences to help attendees reduce fall-related injuries and fatalities at their organizations. The webinar applies to safety and health professionals at the beginner, intermediate, advanced and executive levels. Each online registration includes all standards in the Z359 Fall Protection Code. Attendees will earn 0.2 continuing education units (CEUs). Voluntary consensus standards provide expert guidance on industry best practices and fill gaps where federal standards don’t exist. Companies rely on them to drive improvement, injury prevention and sustainability. With government regulations slow to change and often out of date, compliance is not sufficient to protect workers.

Mezzanine Safeti-Gates extends safety gate line beyond people and products Mezzanine Safeti-Gates, Inc., has announced that it now offers RobotGate™, a new safety gate designed to protect industrial robots from falling into shafts of vertical reciprocating conveyors (VRCs) or elevators in automated storage and retrieval systems (ASRS) of material handling and warehousing facilities. The new RobotGate utilizes a power-operated, single-gate system that provides fall protection for ASRS automated robots and pallet shuttles as they move from level to level. The steel safety gate interlocks with the elevator or VRC and mounts to existing pallet rack and any floor rails the robots use to move around the area. RobotGate keeps its shaft-facing gate closed to keep the robot away from the ledge of the elevator shaft, only opening when the elevator is present and aligned with the floor on that level. “The investments being made into automation, including robots that help in material handling applications are not small. Just like investing in the safety of your human workforce, companies also need to think about investing in the safety of their robotic workforce,” said Aaron Conway, president, Mezzanine Safeti-Gates, Inc. “We created the RobotGate out of need, as many facility managers have reached out after an incident, most of which required a complete replacement of the robot. RoboGates provide the same level of safety for operations, as our Roly® safety gate provides for people and products.” The RobotGate is another instance in which a custom-engineered safety gate design has evolved to become a standard model sold by the company. Other models that started as custom designs include the Open Top, Tri-Side, Dock-Lift and High Pallet Pivot safety gates. Pallet drop safety gates systems manufactured by Mezzanine Safeti-Gates come in standard single-wide and double-wide sizes. All safety gates can be manufactured in stainless steel or powder-coated steel and finished in any color. Custom engineering can be obtained for uncommon pallet drop area sizes and or unique applications. Representatives from Mezzanine Safeti-Gates will be in ProMat booth S1849 in Chicago’s McCormick Place from March 17-20, 2025, and can discuss RobotGate applications. Used in thousands of locations throughout the world, pallet drop safety gate systems offered by Mezzanine Safeti-Gates can be equipped with additional forklift truck ‘operator-assist’ technologies including power, remote operation and radio frequency sensors. Product containment netting is available for new and existing pallet drop gates.

67% of managers surveyed would consider using virtual reality training J. J. Keller & Associates, Inc. has announced the release of virtual reality training, now available in its J. J. Keller® Training online solution. Accessible with a compatible virtual reality (VR) headset, this new training format allows learners to navigate realistic simulations of safety and compliance situations they may encounter in their jobs. A study conducted last year by the J. J. Keller Center for Market Insights found that 67% of managers surveyed would consider using VR training, representing significant interest and opportunity for this format. J. J. Keller’s VR training offers various benefits that set it apart from other VR training. Most notably, it fits seamlessly into J. J. Keller’s existing training ecosystem. Customers can enroll learners in VR courses and track their performance in the J. J. Keller® Training solution alongside online E-Learning, streaming video, and classroom program formats. Many companies that offer VR training don’t integrate it into their learning management system, making it impossible for customers who use multiple training formats to keep all their recordkeeping centralized on one platform. Customers can also use J. J. Keller’s standard training enrollments on VR training. This is the same type of enrollment used on J. J. Keller’s other training formats. There is no need to purchase any kind of special enrollment at an increased price to enroll learners in VR courses. Other key advantages to VR training include: Improved Engagement & Retention: VR programs offer a more engaging, immersive training experience that increases the likelihood of employees applying their knowledge and skills in the “real world.” “Freedom to Fail”: By navigating dangerous situations in a virtual environment, learners can make mistakes safely while still feeling as though the consequences are real. Convenience: On-the-go or remote employees may rarely be onsite. VR training ensures employees receive the instruction they need, regardless of their location. Cost-Effectiveness: No need to fly professional trainers in for training sessions. Virtual programs provide exceptional training while keeping costs down. And More “Giving customers a choice in format is important to us,” said J. J. Keller President and CEO Rustin Keller. “Innovating in a way that captures the learner’s imagination and improves engagement is something we seek constantly. I’m really excited about this new option for trainers. One demonstration and it’s clear this changes the way people learn. It’s fantastic.” At launch, J. J. Keller offers 16 VR training programs: Workplace Safety & Health Arc Flash (Flashover) Confined Space Entry Electrical Safety Fire Safety (The Office) Hazard Recognition – Warehouse Hot Work Ladder Safety Lockout/Tagout Trenching and Excavation Safety Transportation Brake System: Pre-Trip Vehicle Inspection Engine and Front Axle: Pre-Trip Vehicle Inspection In-Vehicle: Pre-Trip Vehicle Inspection Lights: Pre-Trip Vehicle Inspection Walk-Around: Pre-Trip Vehicle Inspection Road Safety Traffic Accident With Dangerous Goods Human Resources Active Shooter Response Training for Civilians (Office) J. J. Keller will introduce new VR courses to its library regularly for these and other markets. “By adding virtual reality training to our offerings, we’re providing our customers with an easy way to practice scenarios in a realistic, hands-on environment,” said J. J. Keller Executive Vice President of Technology Solutions Lacie Callan. “Whether in a confined space, working with machinery, or inspecting vehicles, virtual reality allows for self-paced learning in all types of situations that prepare employees to safety do their jobs.” Learners must use the J. J. Keller Virtual Reality Training Headset (PICO Neo3) to access these VR courses. The headset is available for purchase from J. J. Keller and provides everything needed to get started.

Free safety training is available at laddersafetytraining.org The American Ladder Institute (ALI), the only approved developer of safety standards for the U.S. ladder industry, has released findings from its 2024 Ladder Safety Training and Citations Survey. Results reveal preferred methods of ladder safety education as well as types of ladder-related accidents and injuries, frequency and types of ladder citations, and how rates compare to surveys from 2016, 2018, and 2020. Survey participants were asked what type of ladder-related accidents or incidents have occurred at their organization over the last two years. The most common cause of these incidents was the ladder being set up incorrectly, followed by using the wrong ladder for the job (too long, too short, wrong material, wrong application). From 2020 to 2024, there was a 21% decrease in ladder-related accidents that resulted in serious injury or loss of life. The survey found that nearly all organizations (98%) use a form of ladder safety training. The year-over-year comparison shows an increase in the number of organizations paying for safety training (35%, up from 28% in 2020). Similar to 2016, 2018, and 2020, in 2024, more than 75% of the organizations mandate training and have done so for many years. Organizations don’t need to pay for ladder safety training. ALI provides robust, absolutely free-of-charge ladder safety training at its dedicated training website. The site makes safety training easy all year long, with an organized curriculum, training videos, and resource libraries, all completely free. Training courses are designed to seamlessly complement and integrate with an organization’s existing training program, or managers can choose to use the entire program. After signing up, trainers and training managers develop a custom dashboard, called a Trainer’s Toolbox, in which they select training and testing, assign them to trainees, and monitor trainee performance and progress on the assignments. The Toolbox is designed for ultimate flexibility and ease of use. Topics covered include single and extension, articulated, mobile, and stepladders. Training is available in English or Spanish. Taking training on laddersafetytraining.org does not require an invitation from a trainer. Anyone who wishes to enhance their awareness of ladder safety can sign up, take training, and be tested. ALI believes continuous safety training is the best way to empower workers to make the right decisions when using ladders. To raise further awareness about ladder safety, ALI has designated every March as National Ladder Safety Month. It unveils an intensive, four-week educational outreach program each year at that time. The 2024 Ladder Safety Training and Citations Survey was distributed to ladder safety training managers and professionals by ALI’s Education & Outreach Committee and Thomas Associates, Inc., based in Cleveland, Ohio. The survey is part of ALI’s ongoing effort to reduce ladder-related incidents and promote ladder safety training for all ladder users in professional settings and at home.

The American Society of Safety Professionals (ASSP) has revised two workplace safety standards that enable organizations to better protect workers and improve daily operations to achieve a higher level of business success. One standard guides the development of effective safety training while the other helps control hazardous energy that can seriously harm workers. ANSI/ASSP Z490.1-2024, “Criteria for Accepted Practices in Safety, Health and Environmental Training,” explains how to develop and manage safety training programs while providing criteria for incorporating key learning principles. The standard helps an organization evaluate the application and outcomes of training on the job, and document programs to maintain compliance with company policies and regulatory mandates. “It may sound obvious, but all workers should be trained specifically on safety procedures, and that doesn’t always happen,” said ASSP President Pam Walaski, CSP, FASSP. “A significant update to this standard is that it now includes both in-person and virtual training, which has become vital since the start of the pandemic.” ANSI/ASSP Z244.1-2024, “The Control of Hazardous Energy – Lockout, Tagout and Alternative Methods,” establishes requirements that protect workers from the unexpected release of hazardous energy by machines and equipment. The standard calls for the use of lockout, tagout and alternate methods. Examples of hazardous energy include electrical, hydraulic, pneumatic, thermal, chemical, stored and gravitational, impacting many work environments across all industries. “It’s important to isolate or control hazardous energy so the equipment is safe for operation, maintenance, and repair,” Walaski said. “There are too many risks that workers are unnecessarily facing.” Organizations that make worker safety a core value can avoid the economic and reputational costs of incidents involving their workers. Those costs may include medical care, equipment repair, liability, lost productivity, environmental impacts and damage to the company’s reputation. Voluntary consensus standards provide the latest expert guidance and fill gaps where federal standards don’t exist. Companies rely on them to drive improvement, prevent injuries and support business sustainability. With government regulations being slow to change and often out of date, federal compliance is not sufficient to protect worker well-being. “Our standards-development committees provide a technical expertise that ensures our standards reflect the latest industry advancements and best safety practices,” Walaski said. “The end result is fewer injuries, illnesses and fatalities on the job.” In its last fiscal year, ASSP created, reaffirmed or revised 15 standards, technical reports and guidance documents, engaging 1,400 safety experts who represented 500 organizations. The Society also distributed more than 14,000 copies of standards.

Even the most dependable equipment benefits from regular inspections by a qualified technician. These inspections can help prevent unexpected downtime and keep your operation running smoothly. Crush Downtime with Preventive Maintenance Preventative maintenance is your secret weapon against downtime. It’s like that ounce of prevention that saves you a pound of trouble (and a hefty repair bill). Here’s why a well-defined preventive maintenance program is a game-changer: Dodge the Downtime Demon: Say goodbye to unexpected breakdowns that halt production. Slash Repair Costs: Catch small issues early to avoid expensive repairs later. Extend Your VRC’s Lifespan: Regular care keeps your equipment running smoothly for years to come. Safety First: Reduce the risk of accidents caused by malfunctioning equipment. Peak Performance, Maximum Efficiency: Regularly maintained machinery operates at its best, leading to optimized productivity. Let’s break down the key steps involved in a thorough, scheduled inspection. 8 Critical Steps to Keep Your VRC Running Smoothly While inspection protocols can vary depending on your specific VRC model and any custom features, here are some key steps that apply to any VRC. Please note that preventive maintenance should be conducted only by a qualified and trained service technician. 1. Consult a Playbook Don’t wing it! Following a detailed preventive maintenance checklist or playbook for all VRCs ensures you’re doing the right maintenance at the right time. 2. Put Safety First Before you get started, prioritize safety by following safety protocols located in owner’s manuals and preventive maintenance checklists. 3. Scrutinize Safety Components The most important place to begin is with inspecting all safety components/devices. Interlocks, gates, safety cams, chains, brake gap/wear (mechanical VRCs), down solenoid and hydraulic hose connections (hydraulic VRCs), and DeckLocks (if applicable) to ensure they are working properly. 4. Check All Operational Components After inspecting the VRC’s safety components, direct your attention to reviewing operational components such as wheel blocks and chain tensioners to ensure they are within proper tolerance and adjust if needed. 5. Electrical Check-Up Inspect all electrical components, checking for signs of wear/damage, or loose connections and frayed wires. Inspect all push-button stations and/or HMIs, ensuring that the VRC operates as intended. Make sure all moving parts are operating properly with no signs of improper friction or wear. Incorrectly aligned or loose moving parts will become worse if not fixed and can damage other parts or cause excessive wear or strain on your system. 6. Ensure Level Stops Verify that the VRC stops flush with the floor or ramp at each level. Misalignment can lead to loading and unloading issues and may also indicate that the unit has been overloaded or operated incorrectly. 7. Make it Clear Inspect and clean areas under and around the VRC to remove debris or obstructions that could hinder operation. 8. Document and Report Keeping accurate records is crucial. It ensures that issues are addressed promptly and helps you track maintenance history and identify potential problems early. Remember to document and correct any unsafe conditions immediately. Preventive Maintenance Protocols This list provides a solid overview, but real-world VRC inspections are detailed and equipment-specific. As a leading VRC manufacturer, PFlow has developed a comprehensive set of preventive maintenance protocols for each of its VRC models. The Human Factor Regular inspections in VRCs are about more than just checking for broken wires or malfunctioning equipment. They’re crucial for identifying potential human error. Imagine users skipping safety briefings or rushing through calibration steps. This can lead to damaged equipment, hinder equipment performance, and most importantly, create unsafe situations for users. Regular checks ensure everything is being used as intended. This involves verifying users follow safety protocols and that the area surrounding the equipment is clear of obstacles. These are essential preventative measures, forming the backbone of a safe and smooth VRC operation. Preventative Maintenance is Key to Safety and Performance Preventive maintenance is key to keeping your equipment running safely and at optimal performance. As previously stated, preventive maintenance should be conducted only by a qualified and trained service technician. By Beth Mueller, PFlow Industries

Resources and training from American Ladder Institute help keep workers safe The months leading up to March and National Ladder Safety Month are critical because the milestone month does more than amplify a safety message; it also celebrates message penetration and accident reduction. The American Ladder Institute (ALI), the only approved developer of safety standards for the U.S. ladder industry, is the presenting sponsor of National Ladder Safety Month. ALI believes ladder accidents are preventable with thorough safety planning, training, and continuous innovation in product design. Through its advocacy for and promotion of Ladder Safety Month, people, organizations, and businesses receive and, in turn, help spread the message. Most important, more people learn about proper ladder safety. Each year’s National Ladder Safety Month has its own theme and focus areas for each week in the month. This year’s theme is Every Step Matters. Topics of weekly focus are: Week 1: Training and Awareness Week 2: Inspection and Maintenance Week 3: Stabilization, Setup, and Accessories Week 4: Safe Climbing and Positioning The goals of National Ladder Safety Month are to raise awareness of ladder safety, decrease injuries and fatalities caused by ladder misuse, and increase the number of people certified in Ladder Safety Training. There are so many resources available to help properly train all tradespeople on how to use a ladder safely and effectively. ALI itself maintains three separate websites loaded with valuable information. Of particular interest should be laddersafetytraining.org. As its URL makes clear, the site is ALI’s central hub for ladder safety training material of every type. Individual users can register and deepen skills or brush up on safety. Managers and supervisors can customize curriculum for employees, create work groups, email training notices to their team members, and track who is taking their training – and how they’re doing on their tests. Helping to motivate safety and the success of Ladder Safety Month are its sponsors. If you are interested in National Ladder Safety Month 2025 sponsorships, view our prospectus or contact ALI for more information.

It focuses on fostering a safe and positive environment for retail employees and the millions of customers they serve. “As the nation’s largest private-sector employer, retailers help millions of customers find the items they want and need on a daily basis,” NRF Foundation Executive Director Adam Lukoskie said. “The Customer Conflict De-escalation program provides customer-facing employees with the knowledge and training to identify situations of potential conflict, and, most importantly, abate them successfully and ensure an enjoyable shopping experience for all.” The NRF Foundation partnered with the Crisis Prevention Institute (CPI) to create a 30-minute online de-escalation training program. Explicitly developed for front-line, customer-facing, and distribution center employees, the course teaches associates how to identify and manage customer conflict within a retail environment. “At CPI, we understand that retail employees face unique challenges on the front lines every day. Our partnership with the NRF Foundation to develop the Customer Conflict De-escalation training ensures that these vital skills are accessible to those who need them most, fostering safer and more positive environments for both employees and customers,” said Susan Driscoll, president of Crisis Prevention Institute. In 2023, the NRF Foundation earned more than 58,000 RISE Up training credentials. For more information, visit here.

Ladder Safety Month: American Ladder Institute offers sponsorships for 2025 campaign This past March, the message of National Ladder Safety Month reached millions of people. Now, the American Ladder Institute (ALI) is seeking sponsors for the 2025 campaign, so it can reach even more. The sponsorship is a valuable brand extension for any company invested in the manufacture of ladders OR in their safe use. Companies with employees working at heights understand the value of emphasizing safety and its impact on accident prevention and saving lives. Observed every March, National Ladder Safety Month is the only program dedicated exclusively to promoting ladder safety at home and work. Each year, tens of thousands are injured and hundreds die in accidents caused by improper ladder usage. The reach of National Ladder Safety Month only expands with the support of its sponsors. They are the driving force behind helping to raise awareness on safe use and decreasing these tragic numbers. ALI, the only approved developer of safety standards for the U.S. ladder industry, is the present sponsor for National Ladder Safety Month. Other major sponsorship opportunities are also available and can be found by reading the 2025 prospectus. Sponsorship packages are available at a variety of participation levels, each with a slate of promotional benefits for sponsors, including logo appearance on materials, tagged recognition in social media posts, social media mentions, listings in press releases, dedicated email blasts to ALI’s database of more than 23,500, web banner ads, and more. The 2024 campaign delivered to sponsors more than 900,000 social media impressions, more than 264 million press release impressions, and an email open-rate of 38%, which is 13% higher than the industry average. The Top Cap sponsor (limited to one) earns the most benefits, for a participation level of $25,000. There are also opportunities for Middle Rung Sponsors, First Rung Sponsors, Supporting Partners, Associates, and more, with participation levels starting at just $500. The theme of National Ladder Safety Month 2025 is “Every Step Matters.” It serves as a reminder of the necessity to be present and mindful at all times on a ladder, as well as the importance of making ladder safety part of regular safety training. The goals of the campaign are to raise awareness of ladder safety, decrease injuries and fatalities caused by ladder misuse, and increase the number of people certified in Ladder Safety Training.

Rope and Sling Specialists Ltd. (RSS) will return as a lead sponsor and take a new exhibit to LiftEx 2024, which takes place 16-17 October at London’s Olympia. See RSS at Stand 40. Having steadily grown its presence at the Lifting Equipment Engineers Association’s (LEEA) flagship event, RSS will again sponsor the water bottles and lanyards, while a larger hospitality area will be at the center of a new-look stand. The exhibit will be the same overall size as last year’s display, which was the focal point for many attendees at the Exhibition Centre Liverpool, but the concept has been revamped and built around a longer bar set against a backdrop of enhanced graphics. Lifting and lashing products will be among those given greater prominence in Olympia’s West Hall. Alan Varney, engineering services director at RSS, said: “We had a successful show in Liverpool last year, but we want to build on that this time. Visitors can expect a more immersive experience, with interesting visuals, supported by an expert team and the usual company hospitality. The jury is still out on the relocation to a less central [UK] venue, but we’re not participating in any negativity; we want to drive a crowd to our stand and give them a flavor of the best the industry has to offer in terms of lifting and rigging products, and the personalities that support it all.” Last year, at the center of the exhibit was a map, detailing all of the company’s national facilities, including the Gemmak Engineering fabrication site. Since then, RSS has recently opened a new depot in Glasgow, Scotland, fronted by Tony McAtee, operations manager, expanding a footprint north of the border created by its Grangemouth site. An additional location in Netherton, West Midlands, will be opened later this year, under Paul Smith, while another depot on the South Coast is also in the pipeline, likely to be unveiled in early 2025. That will take the total to 14 national facilities. Varney said: “We continue to be strategic in where we open our premises, steadfast in our plan to position product and expertise as close to the point of use as possible. We have wanted to expand in Scotland for a while, and putting ourselves in the city of Glasgow will enable us to more efficiently deliver services to the region. “The Midlands site is more focussed on equipment hire and serves as a hub for specialist lifting products in the middle of the country. The southern regions are generating work for our services all the time, and our existing depots are finding it a challenge to cope with that ongoing demand. All of these locations will require engineers, drivers, and hire / sales representatives.” RSS will be represented at LiftEx 2024 by Steve Hutin, managing director; Alan Varney; Paul Glover, national director of operations; and Mark Barnard, operations manager, Swansea; they will be joined by representatives of its Heathrow and Aylesford, Kent operations. The company’s LiftEx carnival will also include a presence at the LEEA Awards, which will be presented on 16 October at London’s famous Dorchester Hotel. See RSS at LiftEx Stand 40.
