The American Logistics Aid Network (ALAN) has announced the 2025 recipients of its Humanitarian Logistics Awards. “Over the last 20 years, we’ve often said that when bad things happen, good people show up. That’s what these awards are all about,” said ALAN Executive Director Kathy Futon. “Throughout the years and over the course of many disasters, all of our award recipients have repeatedly stepped up to help without ever asking what’s in it for them – and truly gone above and beyond to assist disaster survivors.” This year’s honorees include: Continental Logistics, which received ALAN’s Outstanding Contribution To Disaster Relief Award Fleet Advantage, which received ALAN’s Employee Engagement Award Niagara Cares, which received ALAN’s Employee Engagement Award Partners Warehouse, a Flex Logistics company, which received ALAN’s Outstanding Contribution To Disaster Relief Award Dr. Burcu Balçik of Ozyegin University, who received ALAN’s Research And Academic Contributions Award And ALAN’s founders, who received ALAN’s Lifetime Achievement Award. Continental Logistics earned its award for providing $11,000 worth of the pro bono transportation that was needed to deliver donated goods to numerous food banks, community centers and other humanitarian organizations that served more than 173,000 individuals after Hurricane Helene, the Los Angeles wildfires and other disasters. Fleet Advantage was honored for the charitable work of its employees through its Kids Around The Corner Foundation, which served 51 non-profit organizations and helped with relief efforts after disasters such as Hurricane Helene and Hurricane Milton during 2024. Throughout the year, the company hosted eight volunteer events, making it possible for its personnel to directly help the communities where they live and work. These volunteers’ efforts included assembling and distributing over 2,000 meals and hygiene kits; assisting with hurricane relief efforts; providing more than 100 Easter baskets; and collecting and assembling 200 backpacks with necessary school supplies for people in need. Niagara Cares received its award for mobilizing hundreds of its employees to support relief efforts in California’s Palisades and Altadena areas after the Los Angeles wildfires, including assembling care packages for first responders; creating hygiene and care kits for displaced residents; and painting murals, building learning gardens and planting trees to restore a sense of hope and re-beautify areas that were damaged by the fires. Partners Warehouse, a Flex Logistics company, was honored for providing ALAN with the donated long-term warehousing space and logistics support it needed to accept the largest material equipment donation in its history – 80 pallet jacks. These jacks, which ALAN has been using to assist nonprofits with their Hurricane Helene, Arkansas Tornado and other relief efforts, have already enabled these humanitarian organizations to serve more than 700,000 individuals in need. Balçkik was lauded for her pioneering work in data-driven decision-making during the preparedness, response and recovery phases of humanitarian operations. Her research in areas such as stock pre-positioning, last-mile aid planning, supplier framework agreements and needs assessment planning as well as her collaboration with researchers from around the world have led to many tangible gains in disaster preparedness, coordination and fairness. Finally, ALAN’s founders and founding organizations — seven individuals and nine professional associations or nonprofits –were recognized for creating ALAN in 2005 and providing ALAN with ongoing support ever since. Over the past two decades, ALAN has served more than 300 non-profit organizations across more than 100 disasters, delivering free logistics services, equipment and expertise that have been valued at missions of dollars and benefitting the lives of approximately 10 million people. “Each of these recipients exemplifies what selfless logistics is all about – all while reminding us of the incredible good the supply chain community can do,” Fulton said. “We’re thankful for their generosity, inspired by their example, and honored to give them the recognition they so deeply deserve.”

Annual awards honor extraordinary supply chain relief efforts The American Logistics Aid Network (ALAN) has opened nominations for its ninth annual Humanitarian Logistics Awards, and it’s asking for your help in identifying some of this year’s most deserving honorees. “Humanitarian relief wouldn’t happen without the facilitation and support of the supply chain community,” said ALAN Executive Director Kathy Fulton. “These awards were created to shine a light on that generosity. While we at ALAN know a lot about what many organizations and individuals are doing to support disaster relief efforts, there are still many others whose life-changing work we won’t be made aware of – and able to honor – unless someone takes the time to nominate them.” Nominations (including self-nominations) can be made via ALAN’s website between now and June 30. Winners will be announced this fall at ALAN’s 20th anniversary celebration during the annual CSCMP EDGE Conference. ALAN’s Humanitarian Logistics Awards are open to any supply chain professional, academic, organization or department. They are awarded in four key categories, each of which can have multiple honorees: Outstanding Contribution To Disaster Relief Employee Engagement Research/Academic Achievement Lifetime Achievement

The Plastics Industry Association (PLASTICS) announced the winners of its 2025 Plastic Sustainability Innovation Awards, recognizing outstanding innovations in plastics manufacturing that deliver environmental advantages in design, material, and end-of-life management. PLASTICS’ Senior Vice President of Sustainability and Policy, Patrick Krieger, congratulated the winners, stating: “Congratulations to all this year’s winners. These companies represent the innovation driving the plastics industry forward and advancing sustainability. Their achievements are a testament to the incredible progress being made across our industry.” Sustainable Innovation in Design Award PureCycle is the winner of the design award for PureFive™ resin. PureCycle uses a dissolution recycling process developed by The Procter & Gamble Company (P&G) that separates color, odor, other plastics, and additives from PCR polypropylene waste feedstock to transform it into PureFive™ resin. This purification process helps close the loop on recycled plastics while making recycled polypropylene more accessible at scale to companies seeking more sustainable materials in their products. In 2024, PureFive™ resin was successfully used in fiber, injection molding, and thermoforming applications. “PureCycle is honored to receive this award from the Plastics Industry Association,” said Tamsin Ettefagh, Chief Sustainability Officer and Vice President of Government for PureCycle Technologies. “The path to solving the plastic waste problem is paved with innovations, and our team at PureCycle is proud to be part of that solution. With our dissolution-based recycling process, we’re focused on providing a sustainable, drop-in solution that empowers our customers to achieve their sustainability goals.” Sustainable Innovation in Materials Award GreenMantra Technologies is the winner of the materials award for its CERANOVUS® specialty polymer additive. GreenMantra has developed the first commercially scaled molecular recycling technology, converting 100% waste plastics into high-performance synthetic waxes and polymer additives. Unlike standard recycled plastics, CERANOVUS® additives are molecularly engineered through a proprietary process that breaks down long carbon chains in recycled polyolefin plastics into tailored shorter-chain polymers and waxes. The result: functional additives that enhance product performance, improve manufacturing efficiency, and drive greater sustainability. By seamlessly integrating into existing manufacturing processes, CERANOVUS enables industries to incorporate more recycled content while maintaining—or even improving—material quality. “We are thrilled to receive the Plastic Sustainability Innovation Award,” said GreenMantra Technologies’ CEO, Domenic Di Mondo. “This recognition highlights the incredible work of the GreenMantra team and the real-world impact of our CERANOVUS polymer additives. With proven commercial success in roofing, paving, and drainage pipe applications, and clear environmental and market benefits, this innovation is reshaping how recycled materials are used in critical infrastructure. It’s a powerful example of how manufacturers can reimagine product formulations to enhance performance, improve processing efficiency, and advance their sustainability goals. We’re proud of what we’ve accomplished and energized by the opportunities ahead.” Sustainable Innovation in End-of-Life Award Greyparrot is the winner of the end-of-life award for its Greyparrot Analyzer. The Analyzer is an AI-powered waste analytics system that revolutionizes plastic recovery by providing real-time data on material composition in sorting facilities. Using advanced computer vision, the Analyzer identifies and categorizes waste on conveyor belts, enabling operators to optimize infeed blends, improve product quality, and reduce residue loss. With 140 units deployed across 55 facilities globally, the Analyzer has identified millions of dollars in recoverable plastics previously lost to landfill. “Data is the missing link in unlocking a truly circular economy for plastics,” said Gaspard Duthilleul, COO at Greyparrot. “Our AI waste analytics systems are introducing unprecedented waste data analytics at scale, to benefit the waste value chain. That insight is helping the waste sector recover plastic more profitably, and helping brands measure and improve their packaging’s recoverability. This award is a powerful recognition of the role waste intelligence has to play in transforming plastic waste from a global pollutant into a valuable resource.” Leadership in Sustainability Innovation Award The Leadership Award, presented to the company with the best overall score across the three categories, was awarded to Plastipak for their PPK Natura material. PPK Natura utilizes CarbonSmart™ MEG, a technology derived from waste carbon emissions through a proprietary carbon capture and transformation (CCT) process. In this process, industrial carbon emissions—such as those from steel mills or other carbon-intensive industries—are captured and converted into ethanol. The ethanol is then processed into monoethylene glycol (MEG), a key building block for PET resin. MEG is combined with terephthalic acid to create PPK Natura, a high-performance PET resin with the same properties as virgin fossil-based PET. The result is a fully recyclable material that retains the technical integrity required for a variety of packaging applications. “We’re honored that PPK Natura has received the Plastics Sustainability Innovation Award,” said Plastipak’s Executive Managing Director Europe, Pedro Martins. “At Plastipak, we’re committed to packaging and recycling innovation that reduces environmental impact. Through the use of renewable electricity and forward-thinking design, we’re driving progress in carbon reduction and fossil resource conservation while helping our customers reduce Scope 3 emissions. PPK Natura is a testament to our leadership in sustainable packaging. This cutting-edge PET resin is made from carbon waste and delivers the same high performance as virgin PET—but with a lower carbon footprint. This award reinforces our commitment to a more sustainable future—and we’re just getting started.” People’s Choice Award SnapSlide is the winner of the People’s Choice Award for their SnapSlide RX Vial. This product redefines pharmaceutical packaging by combining child resistance with one-handed accessibility—an industry first. Designed to empower individuals with limited dexterity, SnapSlide eliminates the struggle of traditional push-and-twist closures while maintaining CPSC-certified child safety. Beyond accessibility, SnapSlide advances sustainability, using 25% less plastic than conventional vials while increasing shipping efficiency by approximately 20%. “We are honored to receive this award. SnapSlide represents what’s possible when sustainability and accessibility are treated as equal priorities—practical solutions that serve more people, with less impact on the planet,” said SnapSlide CEO Rocky Batzel.

Yale Lift Truck Technologies has announced recognition by Food Logistics and Supply & Demand Chain Executive as a 2024 Top Software & Tech Award winner. The award spotlights new-to-market solutions and enhancements to existing software and technology designed to provide automation, efficiency, and visibility to the supply chain space. The company’s Advanced Dynamic Stability (ADS), a technology designed to help maintain overall stability and minimize the potential for forklift tipovers, won recognition as a top technology in the Warehouse Automation category. “Warehouse workforces have more than doubled in the last decade, and an influx of inexperienced workers has put a higher than ever focus on safety issues,” says Brad Long, Global Activation Manager, Yale Lift Truck Technologies. “We think technology can help address that, and operator-assist technologies like ADS are a great example. They can lend a helping hand to operators and aid warehouses in supporting proper lift truck operation to help reduce the risk of accidents and make warehouses safer.” Previously available in packaged solutions with one or more other Yale Reliant technologies – including object detection, proximity detection and real-time location sensing – ADS is now available as a standalone option. ADS continuously monitors forklift and load status, and automatically applies interventions in response to compromised stability. Adjustments, such as a reduction to travel speed or a smoothing of fork tilt or lift movement, are carefully measured to avoid abrupt shifts or jerks that can upset stability. The standalone ADS availability offers a more affordable and accessible solution for operations with needs that might not warrant an investment in the detection or infrastructure required for other technologies in the Yale Reliant suite. The technology is now available on more than 50 Yale lift truck models. “Automation, sustainability, smart technology, supply chain optimization, and risk management were the major themes of this year’s new software and technology solutions. These new products and enhancements are upping the ante in modernizing how product moves through the chain, and I appreciate everything this year’s winners do to ensure the safety, security, and sustainability of our supply chains,” says Marina Mayer, Editor-in-Chief of Food Logistics and Supply & Demand Chain Executive. Nearly 43% of award entries pertained to supply chain visibility solutions, followed by WMS/TMS software at 23%, then warehouse automation at 18%, with the remaining 16% of entries in the robotics and procurement and ERP software categories. Enhancements to existing solutions accounted for 55% of submissions, while the remainder were new-to-market technologies.

This year’s scholarship supports local students at Grand Rapids Community College Dematic has announced the recipients of its 2024 Dematic STEM Scholarship Program, presented in partnership with Grand Rapids Community College (GRCC). In its second year, this program highlights Dematic’s commitment to cultivating science, technology, engineering, and mathematic (STEM) innovators and its strong ties to the Grand Rapids community. As a supply chain automation and software solutions provider, STEM is a core component of Dematic’s business. Dematic empowers the next generation of supply chain automation leaders by supporting STEM students. “Investing in STEM education is essential to shaping the future of our industry and supporting innovation,” says Mike Larsson, President, Dematic, and KION Group Executive Board Member. “Grand Rapids has been our home for decades, and we’re proud to give back to the community that has been integral to our success. Supporting these students as they pursue their education at GRCC and is an honor and a privilege.” Dematic invited GRCC students to apply by writing a short essay answering the question, “How does supply chain technology positively impact society?” The selection committee reviewed the applications, and each recipient was awarded $2,000 to support their studies. The scholarship recipients from GRCC include: “The reliance on innovative technologies is crucial to enhance operational efficiency, improve decision-making, and respond to consumer demands more effectively,” wrote Le in her essay. “These technologies improve business operations and contribute to a positive social impact, such as reducing waste and promoting sustainable practices.” Dematic introduced its STEM Scholarship Program last year by awarding $1,000 each to five Grand Valley State University (GVSU) students. The scholarship celebrated the 10th anniversary of GVSU’s Mary Idema Pew Library and its Dematic Automated Storage Retrieval System (AS/RS) installation.
