Cincinnati safety startup debuts its SR-1 fenceless human and robot collaboration at Automate 2026 in Chicago Sensory Robotics, an industrial safety startup company modernizing how people and robots work together, will introduce its SR-1 system — which uses 3D time-of-flight sensing to build a live, invisible safety zone around an existing industrial robot — at Automate 2026 in Chicago, June 22–25. The system watches the space continuously, letting the robot run at full speed when the area is clear, slowing it down as a person approaches, and stopping it instantly if someone or something gets too close. The result is that people and fast, heavy robots can work in the same space without the cages and fences that have defined factory floors for decades. Removing Safety Fences Through Certification Physical safety fencing consumes valuable floor space and forces a choice between speed and proximity. Slow-moving collaborative robots designed to be safe near people solved the proximity problem but gave up the speed and payload that production lines depend on. The harder barrier was never just engineering — it was approval. Regulated manufacturers cannot deploy a fenceless system without independent certification, no matter how well the technology performs, because insurance guidelines and regulatory compliance hinge on worker safety. Safety requirements are a large part of why the fence line has stayed in place. After years of effectively demonstrating its worth, the SR-1 system has been certified under UL 1740 (cULus) and validated to Performance Level d, Category 3 under ISO 13849, with a PFHd of 1.73 × 10⁻⁷, a level of safety certification that is notoriously difficult to achieve and that regulated manufacturers require before deploying any fenceless system. “This kind of certification is one of the hardest things to achieve in our industry, and that is the point,” said Mark Gagas, chief operating officer of Sensory Robotics. “It is what lets a regulated manufacturer trust a fenceless system enough to put it on a real production line. The milestone is not the paperwork. It is the confidence it gives the people who work next to these machines every day.” See Unfenced Robot Demos at Automate Sensory Robotics was founded by CEO Chris Edwards and CTO Tristan Fogt, two technology veterans who arrived at industrial safety from an unlikely starting point: virtual reality gaming. The company has grown up inside Cincinnati’s research and innovation ecosystem and will introduce the SR-1 system at Automate 2026, offering live, unfenced robot demonstrations attendees can watch on a large projector screen. “Industrial robots were never designed to work next to people. They were powerful machines built to be isolated,” said Chris Edwards, CEO of Sensory Robotics. “What has changed is that the industry now has both the technology and, just as importantly, the certified proof that people and robots can share a space safely.”

From this baseline, the team develops a tailored maintenance plan coordinated around production schedules to minimize disruption. Services can include routine inspections, mechanical and electrical adjustments, software and control backups, calibration and alignment, wear‑part replacement, and safety and compliance checks. The Field Services team then executes the plan through scheduled site visits, detailed reporting, and ongoing coordination with plant leadership so maintenance remains consistent, documented, and aligned with operational and financial goals. A dedicated robotics preventive maintenance program is integrated directly into Integrion’s Field Services to address the specific requirements of robotic cells within automated lines. Using condition‑based maintenance principles, Integrion leverages inspection results and historical service trends to identify issues before they become failures. This enables customers to replace parts at optimal intervals, avoid cascading failures and secondary damage, extend asset life, and improve reliability compared to reactive, break‑fix approaches that only respond after production has already been interrupted. To further reduce outage duration, Integrion pairs its maintenance expertise with a proactive critical‑parts strategy. Many extended outages are driven not by the complexity of the repair, but by waiting for parts; every hour lost to parts availability is an hour of lost production. Integrion maintains strategic inventories of critical spare parts and consumables based on customer equipment profiles and historical usage, enabling technicians to arrive prepared and complete most repairs in a single visit. This supports faster response times, fewer repeat visits, shorter outages, lower expedited shipping costs, and more stable production, making parts readiness a core element of Integrion’s uptime‑focused service model.

How Jungheinrich and HMS are shaping the future of automated storage with speed, safety, and connectivity Meet the PowerCube The PowerCube was designed with one clear goal—to improve efficiency. By maximizing storage density and accelerating order processing, it helps warehouses handle more goods in less space and time. At the heart of the system is Jungheinrich’s own Warehouse Control System (WCS), which controls automated shuttles via Ethernet communication to ensure they move quickly and safely within a high-density grid. These shuttles operate on the entire bottom level in two dimensions, leveraging the full vertical space above the system for maximum storage capacity. Benefits of the PowerCube: Unique use of space: Up to four times higher storage density compared to conventional shelving. High system height: Vertical storage up to 12 meters. Scalable design: Flexible throughput, container capacity, and shuttle count. Powerful performance: Each shuttle can carry two containers at once, up to 50 kg per container. Easy integration: Short assembly times and simple IT connections—no need for floor milling. “We wanted a system that combines speed, safety, and scalability. PowerCube delivers all three,” says Carlos de Almeida. Turning to HMS Networks for Reliable Connectivity Keeping shuttles moving safely in two dimensions is no easy task—it demands reliable and deterministic wireless communication. Any delay or disruption stops a shuttle, blocks access to storage areas, and can halt the entire line, leading to costly delays. Cables were not an option because the shuttles need complete freedom to move across the bottom level without restrictions. Recognizing the need for reliable connectivity, Jungheinrich turned to HMS Networks. As Carlos puts it, “we’re experts in logistics, not networking, so we contacted HMS for help.” To ensure reliability, HMS recommended the following robust wireless setup: Anybus Wireless Access Points installed throughout the installation for full signal coverage. Dual-band segmentation using 5 GHz for communication with tablets and maintenance devices, and 2.4 GHz for shuttle control and safety communication. Anybus Wireless Bridge II, with its integrated antenna and compact IP67 form factor, for a space-saving installation on each shuttle. Point-to-multipoint architecture allows shuttles to roam freely between APs with continuous Ethernet connectivity wherever they are in the system. IP67-rated hardware ensures durability in harsh environments, including cold storage where condensation is a risk. “We really appreciated HMS’ support and guidance. The Bridges and Access Points are working well, but it just about the products. Their Wireless & Infrastructure Implementation Assistance service made a big difference, helping us overcome the challenges of deploying wireless connectivity in a dense, metallic structure. Using their expertise and analysis tools, HMS designed the best layout for access points to ensure reliable performance in every installation. In some cases, we even asked HMS to join us at our customer’s warehouse to perform a site survey and validate signal coverage,” adds Carlos. First deployments in the field The PowerCube is now entering real-world applications, proving its efficiency and reliability in multiple installations. “It’s great to see PowerCube out in the field solving issues. Fastbolt, for example, wanted faster order processing and better space utilization. And that’s exactly what the PowerCube is providing,” enthuses Carlos. The future of automated storage With the PowerCube, Jungheinrich is setting a new benchmark for automated storage systems. And with HMS providing the wireless backbone that keeps shuttles moving, this partnership is paving the way for smarter, more efficient warehouses worldwide. But the journey doesn’t stop here. Jungheinrich plans to scale the PowerCube to larger deployment systems with increasing storage surface and numbers of shuttles, a move that will require advanced wireless design and continuous network monitoring. At the same time, meeting cybersecurity requirements and complying with regulations such as RED, CRA, and NIS2, along with optimizing safety architecture for the upcoming EU

SIEMPELKAMP Machines & Handling GmbH has significantly increased its efficiency and sustainability by integrating Wiferion’s inductive charging solution. This partnership combines SIEMPELKAMP’s RundSchienen system with Wiferion’s innovative wireless charging technology, resulting in a significant improvement in production processes. Identifying trends early on is an important credo for economic efficiency. However, foresight does not always lead to business success. For the SIEMPELKAMP Machines & Handling GmbH , a member of the , focusing on a second pillar around ten years ago proved to be forward-looking. Having grown in the field of press automation in the 1980s and 1990s, the provider of system solutions for transport and handling has now specialised in driverless transport systems (AGVs) and, in this context, expanded the range of its patented circular rail system. “Market demand in the field of press automation has declined steadily over the last five years. The main drivers are the significant changes in the field of car body parts manufacturing,” says Dominik Schaffrinski, Head of Business Development & Marketing at SIEMPELKAMP. “Instead, demand in the field of intralogistics has risen steadily. Since we had already developed an unbeatable system for moving press tools with our round rails, we came up with the idea of using it for other areas of application as well. The decision to also build driverless transport vehicles (FTF) for our rail network was then an obvious one. Our new corporate focus is now on a complete system consisting of rails and automation that are perfectly coordinated with each other.” Heavy loads made easy: SIEMPELKAMP’s AGV solution for high efficiency and ergonomics The company now supplies 18,000 metres of RundSchienen for around 100 new projects per year. SIEMPELKAMP serves a niche market by focusing on the last mile in production, where the entire value chain converges to form the end product, and specialising in heavy loads. Products weighing between 5 and 200 tonnes can be transported on the rail system using SIEMPELKAMP’s uTrack AGV – a particularly floor-friendly mode of transport. In addition to its high positioning accuracy, the uTrack rail guide is also characterised by its energy efficiency. Thanks to its low coefficient of friction, moving loads is ten times more energy-efficient than with other rail systems. With a standard height of 260 mm, uTrack is an extremely compact AGV that improves ergonomics when working on and around vehicles. This exceptionally flat design is a unique selling point for the AGV worldwide. A very low failure rate also enables a high level of production reliability of 99.8 per cent. This is partly due to the closed contour of the round rail system, which, unlike conventional rails, has no large joints where dirt could fall and hinder transport. But even in the extremely rare event of a breakdown, it is no big deal, as Dominik Schaffrinski explains: “If a vehicle breaks down, it can be decoupled from its drive within five minutes and pulled along the track by an auxiliary mover, for example. With lighter loads, the vehicles can even be pushed from station to station by staff. Thanks to the low coefficient of friction, a single person can move up to five tonnes.” The result: the AGV remains on the track and production can be completed. Downtime and costs are thus reduced to a minimum. High effort, low yield: the disadvantages of line induction What a single person can move does not require a powerful battery system. Only two to four battery modules with a voltage of 48 volts and a charge storage capacity of 21 to 42 ampere hours are installed per uTrack. Due to the very low resistance when starting and braking, this power is completely sufficient. However, the type of energy transmission via line conductors embedded in the ground along the route proved to be a disadvantage in terms of efficiency. With line induction, the track must be permanently energised, even when the vehicle is stationary and has no significant energy requirements. This significantly reduces efficiency and consequently increases operating costs and environmental impact. “The longer the route, the worse the carbon footprint,” says Dominik Schaffrinski. In addition, this type of energy transfer involves enormous installation costs. The line conductors must be precisely adjusted to the rail level along the entire route. A highly efficient, technically sophisticated system and an inefficient energy supply? For SIEMPELKAMP, this is not an acceptable situation. The company has therefore been relying on Wiferion’s inductive point charging systems since 2022. Charging only where necessary: Wiferion’s etaLINK 3000 increases efficiency Wiferion offers inductive charging systems for autonomous AGVs that can be installed without major changes to the building structure. SIEMPELKAMP integrates these directly into the assembly line in the form of the Wireless Charging Protection System (WCPS) floor installation solution from Wiferion’s strategic partner PohlCon. Unlike a line induction system, which is installed along the entire line, etaLINK 3000 is only used at a few strategically important locations. “SIEMPELKAMP saw great potential in a solution that would eliminate this additional energy and installation effort. The number of charging stations required in the line is determined based on the number of stations to be approached and the energy consumption, which is calculated from factors such as the weight, speed and cycle time of the AGVs. Wiferion’s 3kW system only provides energy where it is needed. This is a 1:1 added value for the end customer,” says Dominik Schaffrinski. “This has improved energy efficiency by more than 50%. So we offer the best of both worlds: our rail technology and Wiferion’s inductive charging technology, a highly efficient complete package.” The result: the reduced complexity of the charging structure significantly lowers the overall project costs. In addition, manufacturers of large and heavy products who rely on SIEMPELKAMP’s transport system benefit from a significantly more efficient carbon footprint. Another advantage results from the interaction of the two technologies: the high positioning accuracy of the round rail system allows the ideal range of the Wiferion technology to be approached with pinpoint accuracy. This allows for a greater
