Alta Equipment Company acquires Great Lakes Power Lift
NACCO Materials Handling Group appoints Alta Equipment Company the authorized Hyster dealer in East Michigan.

Alta Equipment Company and Great Lakes Power Lift executed a definitive agreement on December 28, 2012, under which Alta Equipment acquired the assets of Great Lakes Power Lift.  NACCO Materials Handling Group appointed Alta Equipment Company the authorized Hyster dealer for Eastern Michigan, making Alta Equipment the exclusive authorized Hyster dealer for a large contiguous region including Eastern Michigan, Northern Indiana and great Chicago markets.  Since 1984 Alta has represented the Yale product line in Michigan and consistently earned NACCO's top distinction of "Dealer of Excellence." Alta became a Hyster dealer in 2009 with a string of acquisitions including Midstate Industrial Services in West Michigan and United Lift in Chicago.  Hyster and Yale are both part of NACCO Materials Handling Group (NMHG), one of the world's largest manufacturers of lift trucks and materials handling equipment.

Since 1984, Great Lakes Power Lift has been the Hyster dealer in East Michigan and competed directly with Alta Equipment Company, the Yale dealer since 1984.  Great Lakes Power Lift covered a region of the eastern Lower Peninsula of Michigan from two locations in Saginaw and Warren.  Since 1984 Alta has grown to be one of the largest equipment dealers in the Midwest, boasting 16 service facilities from Traverse City to Chicago, over 500 employees, 270 service technicians, and 200 service vehicles.

“We have a long history servicing the businesses of Eastern Michigan, and we are very excited about this new opportunity to represent the Hyster line," says Steve Greenawalt, owner and CEO of Alta Equipment Company.  "We have competed with Great Lakes for almost 30 years, and during that time they acquired a very loyal customer base, particularly in the automotive sector. We are eager to welcome these customers to Alta and demonstrate our commitment to excellent customer service.  We feel that we can provide a higher level of service to Hyster customers, which means faster response time and increased customer satisfaction," says Greenawalt.

“We are confident that our Hyster lift trucks, combined with Alta Equipment Company’s sales and service support, will deliver excellent customer satisfaction,” said Jonathan Dawley, President of Hyster Distribution. “We look forward to maintaining our long relationship with current Hyster customers, as well as developing a solid relationship with new customers.”

Great Lakes customers now have access to Alta’s rental fleet of over 1250 trucks, and an extensive materials handling product offering including  CombiLift, Bendi, Drexel, Motrec, Rico, and Manitou, in addition to a variety of warehouse solutions and services. Since 2010 Alta has also serviced the construction equipment market with Volvo Construction Equipment, Link-Belt Cranes, Gomaco Concrete Pavers, and Sennebogen Material Handlers.
