MHEDA’s past Executive VP dead at 85

MHEDA, (Material Handling Equipment Distributors Association), past executive vice-president Daniel R. Reilly passed away at the age of 85 after a lengthy illness. Dan served 25 years as the executive vice president from 1969 until 1993. "Dan is a true legend in the material handling industry and did so much to further the interests of MHEDA," says MHEDA Executive Vice President Liz Richards. "It was only fitting that MHEDA’s Convention took place just a few days after Dan’s passing and we had the opportunity to reflect on all of his many contributions with so many of his colleagues and friends." Dan enlisted in the United States Navy at 17 and eventually became the first master chief journalist ever in the U.S. Navy. After Dan's 25-year tenure at MHEDA, he became president of Dan Reilly Communications, a full-service PR firm serving industry clients. He is most remembered for his tireless work growing MHEDA, which was founded in 1954. During his years as executive vice president, Dan launched and edited The MHEDA Magazine, precursor to The MHEDA Journal. Upon his retirement in 1993, Dan was presented with MHEDA's prestigious Distinguished Service Award, citing his dynamic leadership, professionalism and accomplishments. He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Rosalind; children Daniel, Kevin, Susan and Michael; and grandchildren Michael, Kathleen, Daniel, Patrick, and Luke Reilly, Danny, Mia and Joey Richardson; and Hannah, Shane, Kevin and Mickey Reilly. Donations may be made in his name to the Alzheimer's Association , 1 800-272-3900 or www.alz.org. MHEDA Journal contributed to this story.
