2009 MHEDA President Duncan Murphy and President-Elect Greg Morrison met at MHEDA headquarters in Vernon Hills, Ill., for Officers Day on Dec. 8 to plan a smooth transition when the incoming president assumes office on Jan. 1, 2010.
2009 MHEDA President Duncan Murphy, president of Riekes Equipment Company in Omaha, Neb., will end his term as MHEDA President on December 31.
"I have to thank the MHEDA staff and Board. They have really become my extended family this year," Murphy said. "We worked together, played together, sometimes fought and always hugged. My wife, Rozanne, and I couldn't have survived this year without them."
Murphy credited his wife for serving as unpaid first lady for the association. He also thanked Judy Flanagan and the MHEDA media staff for bringing the membership together through its publications.
Murphy's presidency coincided with one of the roughest economic climates in years, yet the association stands poised to come out of it in an even stronger position.
"Member companies faced unprecedented challenges in 2009; so did MHEDA," Murphy said. "Like tempered steel, our organization not only survived the heat, it found new and improved skills that will serve us well in both good times and bad."
Many of these skills were honed during MHEDA's 2009 Convention. Attendees gave this year's convention the highest rating in the history of the event.
Murphy will continue his service on the Board of Directors in 2010 as Immediate Past President.
